Outstanding Montana Tree Farm Inspector Award

Criteria and Point System

Purpose: To provide a system to recognize Tree Farm Inspectors in Montana for accomplishing the goals and objectives of the Montana Tree Farm System.

First Tier of Consideration

Number of Inspections Completed :Also considers the completion of Tree Farm inspections and thoroughness in documenting the inspection on the Tree Farm inspection record and the Standards Checklist. Up to 5 points.

Timeliness of Inspection Completion and Submittal: Assigned inspections completed within before August 1st = 5 points. Assigned inspections completed between August 1st and December 1st = 3 points.

Tree Farm Committee Involvement : Up to 5 points. Makes 90% of past year’s meetings or organizes the annual meeting = 5 points. Makes more than 25% of past year’s meetings or is the co chair of the annual meeting = 3 points. Makes occasional meetings in past year = 1 point.

Outreach and Promotion of Tree Farm Program: news releases, newspaper articles, tours, TV, radio, speeches and presentations, workshops, etc. 1 point for each article, promotional event, etc.. Up to 5 points.

Second Tier of Consideration

Nomination of Awards : TFOY, Educator of the Year, Logger of the Year. 1 point for each nomination made in the present year. Up to 5 points.

Number of and Thoroughness of Updating or Writing New Management Plans : 1 point per plan. Up to 5 points.

Willingness to complete additional inspections: 1 point per plan. Up to 3 points.

Distance to inspections: Up to 50 miles each way = 1 point; Over 50 miles each way = 2 points.

Longevity in Tree Farm Program: 1 – 5 years = 1 point; More than 5 years = 2 points.

Service to the Forestry Community: Membership in SAF, state forestry associations, etc. Up to 2 points.
