From The Principal

Welcome
We welcome a new family to our school community this week. We trust your time with us is both enjoyable and rewarding.
Also joining us this week are pre-service teachers Mrs Amanda Mossop working with the Prep class and Ms Emma Johnson working with Mrs Gill on PE.
All classes have settled quickly this term. I have enjoyed hearing about some of the exciting trips and experiences some children had during the break. Term 4 is another busy term and is 10 weeks long.
Roadworks
As previously advised, the intersection upgrade has commenced and will be conducted in stages. The parent carpark has been impacted significantly and now has reduced parking availability. We encourage parents / carers to be cautious when using the car park and to supervise children at all times as heavy machinery is in use. Please be aware that Somerset Council own and maintain the car park area, not Education Queensland. Additional information is available on the web page www.tmr.qld.gov.au under ‘Projects’, ‘W’ and ‘Warrego Highway (Lowood-Minden Road/Tallegalla Road intersection)
School Photos
These will take place next Monday 9 October. Students are required to wear formal uniform: blue polo and blue shorts / skirt / skort. Hair should be neat and tidy, there is no need for colourful headbands or fancy clips. Year 6s are not permitted to wear their senior shirt.
NRL Gala day
Students in year 4, 5 and 6 will be joining other cluster schools next Thursday in the annual NRL Gala Day at Lowood. Children will travel by bus to and from the event. A canteen will be available on the day but we encourage children to take their own lunch and drinks due to the volume of participants accessing the canteen. Details have been provided previously but further information can be obtained from the office.
Swimming
Our term 4 swimming program commences next Tuesday 10 October. Details were provided prior to the spring vacation but are available from the office if required. For safety reasons, junior classes may need parent / carer volunteers to assist with swimming. If you can help out, please inform your child’s teacher or the office.
2018 School Leader process
How quickly this comes around every year! Over the next few weeks, interested children will be briefed about requirements for the 2018 leadership process. This involves both Captains positions and School Leader roles.
Prep Orientation Sessions
This year we are hosting 8 sessions for 2018 Prep children and their parents. While the children experience activities in the classroom, parents can attend an information session designed to support successful transitions to the prep year and to school. We encourage attendance at as many sessions as possible. Dates and times:
12 October 10:00 – 11:30
16 October 12:00-1:45
26 October 2:00-3:00
30 October 10:00-11:30

13 November 2:00 – 3:00
