Summary

Implements and delivers reproductive health education programs and outreach activities.

Serves patients by greeting and assisting with general information, as needed; assists in coordinating some patient-based activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned as required because of the changing environment of reproductive health.

Design and deliver innovative educational outreach programming targeted to audiences for unplanned pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections in settings such as school, community organizations, correctional facilities and treatment centers.

Develop and implement Semcac Clinic’s social media strategy and engage followers throughcompelling content via the clinic’s Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube accounts

Plan, organize, and coordinate displays, exhibits, and promotional efforts at community events, health fairs and within the clinic setting.

Develop and deliver reproductive health education programs; develop curricula and support materials for these programs as needed.

Evaluate, promote, and disseminate accurate and current information and curricula related to sexuality; keep current on related periodicals, journals, books, curricula, and media.

Compile, record, evaluate outreach and education statistics and prepare reports as needed.

Participate in appropriate professional meetings and work groups to build coalitions; collaborate with other community groups on educational programming; and build and maintain professional relationships.

Train and oversee volunteers, students, and interns in the department when needed.

Interviews patient (or representative) to obtain correct demographic information.

Answers telephone, schedules appointments, and greets and directs patients, salespeople, and visitors.

Instructs patients in completion of medical history and information forms.

Verifies patient’s record is current and accurate. Makes appropriate changes in computer system and on patient’s chart.

Confirms patient’s insurance eligibility with online database prior to each service date.

Understands and operates under federally mandated Title X guidelines.

Explains clinic policies such as hours, payment of accounts (including the sliding fee scale) and services available.

Enters patient admitting information into the computer.

Obtains signed statement(s) from patient to protect Clinic’s interests. This includes, but is not limited to; HIPAA and Patient’s Bill of Rights.

Responds to patient billing and statement inquiries as able or transfers to billing specialist.

Follows guidelines detailed in the Clinic Collections Manual.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job has no supervisory responsibilities, other than student interns on occasion.

Qualifications

Education / Experience Preferred

College degree, preferably in health education, other health-focused or related emphasis, or 2 years’ experience in public health, education or related field. Experience working with patients/clients of all ages, experience working with diverse populations. Direct experience in public information,outreach and marketing. Knowledge of, and interest in, reproductive health. Access to independent transportation, valid driver’s license and current vehicle insurance, with willingness to travel as needed. Willingness to work with volunteers. Previous experience in healthcare fields or in a clinic setting is preferred.

Language Skills

Second language preferred. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization. Ability to effectively communicate across wide range of clinic demographics.

Professional Development

The person in this position must be willing to engage in professional development efforts as available for the position in order for the program to stay in compliance with reproductive health.

Accountability

The employee in this position is accountable to the Clinic Director.

Technology

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet software; Spreadsheet software; PowerPoint software and Word Processing software.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Current driver's license or ability to travel when needed.

Other Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of and interest in reproductive health. Access to independent transportation, valid driver’s license and current vehicle insurance, with willingness to travel as needed. Willingness to work with volunteers. Previous experience in healthcare fields or in a clinic setting is preferred.

Ability to work some evenings and weekends if necessary.
