Dear Parent/Carer

Media Studies Day, Warner Brothers Tour, 3 July 2018

We are excited to be returning a school tour to London to support our curriculum plans for Media Studies Day students and enhance learning experience within the school. The purpose of the trip is to enable students to experience a script to screen workshop, to support their learning of how the film process works in a large studio setting. The trip was a highlight of the Media Studies course last year and provided an inspirational and enjoyable day out.

Here are the key details about the planned trip:

We will depart on 3 July. The precise timings are yet to be confirmed but we will depart in the morning, returning to school in the early evening.

The provisional cost of this trip is £41.00 which will cover: return executive coach travel; a tour of the studio and the script to screen workshop. To secure a place for your son/daughter on this trip, a deposit of £10.00 is required by 7 October 2017. A further payment of £31.00 is due by 4 November. Students will be required to bring their own lunch and any spending money.

As this trip is deemed to be an enhancement to the curriculum, the school normally is unable to offer financial assistance and therefore the full cost of the activity must be borne by yourselves. Payments and accompanying paperwork must be handed in on or before the deadline date specified to avoid jeopardising your child’s place on the trip/activity. Should your child withdraw from the activity, please be aware if a deposit is required that this will be non-refundable and any further payments can only be refunded if the place can be filled by another student on a waiting list, or if the withdrawal is for an insurable reason. If there are significant changes to the cost of the trip, these may have to be passed on to the student. Be assured that we will try to keep such costs to a minimum.

We would advise that students do not to take valuables out on school activities, however, should they be taken parents should ensure personal possessions are adequately insured. It is the parent’s/guardian’s responsibility to update the school should there be any changes to the medical information about their child. Please communicate these to Mrs Brettell, Business Support Manager.

Please complete and return the consent form to the Finance Office by 7 October 2017. Our preferred method of payment is online. Alternatively, you can pay by cash or cheque (made payable to Oaklands Catholic School).

If you have any questions about this visit, please do not hesitate to contact me at the school.

Yours sincerely

Mrs J Evans

Head of Media
