Our Prescription Services are Changing

Introduction:

From 3rd April 2017 pharmacies and dispensing companies will not be able to order medicines on behalf of our patients; patients will need to order their repeat prescription directly from the GP Practice.

This does not affect any arrangement you may have with your chemist collecting your prescription either from the practice or electronically and the delivery of your medications.

Why are we doing this?

We and East Lancs Clinical Commissioning Group (ELCCG) have become increasingly concerned about the amount of drugs that are wasted and feel that a major cause is repeat ordering when the drugs may not actually be required. Some people have built up such large stocks of unused medicines that they have gone out of date (the reason for this is not always the individual).

Benefits to Patients:

These changes will ensure that GPs can monitor and discuss with patients what medicines they may or may not need. The change will improve patient safety as patients have more control and understanding of their medicines and what they are taking at any particular time.

Benefits to the wider NHS:

By implementing the change East Lancs Clinical Commissioning Group (ELCCG) can reinvest the money saved, by reducing prescription waste, on healthcare services.

Different Ways to Order your Prescription:

Online(Best Option) –Patient Access empowers people to take greater control of their health and wellbeing, whilst providing more choice and convenience in how GP services can be accessed, via the internet patients can:

1.  Order repeat prescription(S).

2.  Book routine GP appointments.

3.  Access parts of your medical record.

In Person- by handing in the white, tear off part of your repeat prescription at the surgery when we are open or posting thru the letterbox when we are closed.

By Post - Send to us via the post and if you wanted your prescription sent back to you via the post you must include a stamped addressed envelope (this is at your own risk we cannot guarantee the postal delivery).

Telephone - You can order over the phone between 9am-12pm by choosing the prescription line option.
