175th Anniversary UNITY Event Lights Up June 17 with Excitement!!!
Don't miss the biggest birthday bash in 175 years on Saturday, June 17, at the Naperville Municipal Center, 400 S. Eagle Street. In honor of Naperville's founding in 1831, the theme of unity will be celebrated by bringing all areas of the city together in a gala event. Marching bands, torchbearers and Naperville residents will gather at four areas in the downtown and walk to the cake lighting that will begin at 10 a.m. After the birthday candles are lit, close to 20 vendors will be stationed along Webster and Water Streets to provide treats for those attending.
"In the spirit of UNITY, we want everyone to participate and join in the fun," per the three co-chairs of the event., Veronica Porter, John Schmitt, and Chuck Schlabach
Residents are encouraged to gather at 8:30 a.m. in four locations - north (Washington Junior High School, 201 N. Washington St.), south (Naperville School District 203 Administration Center, 203 W. Hillside Road), east (Merner Fieldhouse at North Central College near Chicago Avenue and Brainard Street) and west (the Riverwalk by Centennial Beach Skate Park, 500 W. Jackson Ave.) -- all within walking distance of the Municipal Center.
Everyone will step off from their respective locations at 9:30 a.m. led by one of four high school marching bands from Naperville Central, Naperville North, Waubonsie Valley and Neuqua Valley. The four parades will converge at the Municipal Center at 10 a.m. where candles representing 25-year segments of Naperville's history will be lit. Everyone will join in singing "Happy Birthday," and “God Bless America” led by Naperville's Mayor George Pradel and Councilman Mary Ellingson. Afterward, cake and pastries will be available from Naperville-area bakeries, chocolatiers, restaurants and caterers.
But the fun doesn't stop after the candles are blown out and the treats are eaten, an old-fashioned stroller parade, reminiscent of the 1931 Centennial Children's Parade, will take birthday party participants across the street to Naper Days, where admission is free until noon.
The yearlong theme of Naperville's 175th Anniversary is "Heritage, Unity and Vision" with the first event tied into the theme of HERITAGE, the birthday cake lighting representing UNITY, and a third event to be held October 14, in Frontier Park will focus on VISION.
Residents interested in participating in one of the four downtown parades should contact one of the route captains listed below preferably, or just show up (more the merrier as we want large crowds who want to have fun):
North Route Captain- Dan Bulley, (630) 717-6520,

UPDATE ON 5-20 NAHC ANNUAL MEETING
There have been some questions regarding an article that appeared in the Sunday 6-4 Naperville SUN article about the dispute between the McCareins and their own HOA Board as well as the resignation of Bob Hofmann as an NAHC Director
To clarify the facts of the matter, the NAHC Board of Directors voted unanimously at its 5-4 meeting to not provide a forum for this private dispute.during our Annual Meeting, This was due to several factors. First, this disputeis in pending litigation. Second, the questions sought to be presented during the meeting seemed to be an attempt toobtain "expert" opinions from NAHC members for potential use in the lawsuit.Third, the NAHC By-Laws to not provide forthe NAHC to become involved in such purely intra-association disputes.Despite the Board's decision, Mr. Hofmann regrettably chose, for reasons personal to him, to disrupt the Annual Meeting, and to precipitously resign from the Board. Bob was a valued participant in the Confederation and member of the Board for years. We wish him well in his future endeavors.

CITY NOTES FOR RESIDENTS
According to city ordinance, residential lawn growth should not exceed eight inches in height. Furthermore, those homeowners with property abutting any public streets, roads or parkways are required to keep grass height less than five inches. In addition to seasonal lawn maintenance, many residents take on home improvement and remodeling projects during this time of year. The City of Naperville requires permits for many home improvement projects, including new driveways, decks and patios, fencing, swimming pools and gazebos. Most reputable contractors working in Naperville are aware of the city's permit requirements for home improvement projects. Be sure to ask the right questions when working with a contractor, and if they offer incentives to do the work on your home without a permit, that should be a warning sign to the homeowner. Permits for home improvement projects benefit homeowners by making sure that the final product is safe and in compliance with building codes. Various permit applications are available on the Naperville City Web site at www.naperville.il.us. Please allow approximately two weeks to process all applications. For more information on building permit requirements, please call (630) 305-7029.
