Our Mission: Working hard to prepare ourselves for a productive future
Dear Parents and/or Guardians:
This letter is being sent to you to help you better understand the report card your student will be receiving in a few weeks. Report cards are a tool to create a connection between students, parents and/or guardians and teachers. Parents and/or guardians need to know their child’s progress in school to understand how to best help them along the way. At New Era Elementary we have moved away from a 1, 2, 3, 4 rubric grade to the traditional A, B, C, D, F grade. This has been done in order to prepare families for the transition to middle school happening in just a few short years.
The grade you will see on your child’s upcoming report card represents the average grade they have achieved on the assessments or tests during the marking period in each subject. Homework is an area where they are able to get a lot of help from both their teacher(s) at school and you at home; therefore we consider this a time to practice their skill in a subject area. The assessments or tests in a subject area is the time for students to show independently what they have learned about the subject that has been taught to them over the last several weeks and thus is the grade that is shown on the report card.
We are looking forward to meeting with each of you during the week of November 10 to discuss your child’s progress and learn more from you about who your child is as a learner. Below are two questions we would like to discuss at parent/teacher conferences. Please take some time to think about these questions before we meet together. We are excited to learn from you and are looking forward to working together to make this a successful school year for your child.
1. What are your expectations for your child as a learner and as a person?
2. In what way do you support your child’s learning at home?
Thank you,
New Era Elementary Staff
