MAJOR GIFT OFFICER
OUR LADY OF VICTORY HOMES OF CHARITY
The Major Gifts Officer is responsible for the identification, cultivation and solicitation of major gift and planned giving prospects to support Our Lady of Victory Homes of Charity & Baker Victory Services, “Father Baker’s”. Working under the direction of the Director of Major Gifts, the Major Gift Officer will be responsible for an assigned portfolio of local and national donors/prospects with a focus on generating five and six figure gifts. He/she will research donor prospects, prepare solicitation materials, including funding proposals and request letters; meet with donors both locally and nationally; coordinate efforts to continuously inform, recognize and steward assigned major donors; and help recruit, train and support fundraising volunteers. The Major Gifts Officer works independently and in partnership with the Director of Major Gifts and other development staff to achieve assigned goals and support the missions of Our Lady of Victory Homes of Charity and Baker Victory Services.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manages a portfolio of assigned prospects, focusing on major gifts and planned gifts, and especially capital campaign gifts throughout the duration of the capital campaign.
- Cultivate, solicit and steward prospects to successfully secure five and six figure commitments for the campaign and beyond.
- Maintain accurate contact and status reports for assigned prospects.
- Identify new prospects and recommend cultivation and solicitation strategies for each.
- Support prospect- initiated planned giving requests (Will Prospects, Bequests, CGA, Stock, Insurance and IRAs, etc.) as assigned; work collaboratively with the department’s Administrative Assistant to prepare solicitation materials, abstracts and request letters.
- Steward planned gift requests, track bequests as assigned, and work with attorneys and estate executors to maximize estate gifts.
- Work openly and collaboratively with fellow team members, cabinet members, volunteers and staff to achieve our campaign goals.
- Assist in planning for and attend cultivation receptions to actively engage donor prospects.
- Attend and participate in career development seminars/conferences.
- Maintain current knowledge of the work of Our Lady of Victory Homes of Charity, and the programs and services offered by Baker Victory Services, and stay current on campaign priorities, case statement and campaign goals.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the Director of Major Gifts (Maintain professional standards that reflect positively on OLV Homes of Charity).
REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum of 5 years experience in fundraising and development, or comparable sales/marketing experience.
PREFERRED:
- B.A./B.S. or higher in business, marketing or related field.
- Current CFRE certification.
- 5+ years of major gift fundraising and/or planned giving.
- General knowledge of planned giving vehicles, including Charitable Gift Annuities.
- Knowledge of Western New York philanthropic community a plus.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Excellent interpersonal, communicative (both verbal and written), analytical, problem solving, and time management skills.
- Basic understanding of direct marketing principles and relational donor bases.
- Knowledge of the Catholic Church and experience with Catholic organizations.
- Demonstrated knowledge and expertise with Microsoft Office products.
- Valid New York State Driver’s License and vehicle for travel in Western New York.
- Ability to travel both locally and nationally on a regular basis (up to 50% of work time or more as necessary).
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends as expected.
WORK CONDITIONS:
Basic schedule is 35 hrs. per week, flexible to meet the needs of the organization and to fulfill the required functions of the job. Job responsibilities include both in-office work as well as activities outside of the office (i.e. organizational and community functions, agency tours, local and national travel for meetings and receptions with donors, travel to attend local and national conferences and seminars, etc.).
SALARY AND COMPENSATION:
Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
