Library Move /
  • Barbara Miller gave an update on the continuing discussion of relocating the library
  • B. Miller contacted Lynn Santore in Security in order to generate a report from from the 3 ID badge swipes covering the time period of January 2013 through (and including) April 2013
  • Usage during time period was impressive: over 24,000 “swipes”
  • Housestaff: 240 individuals for 7,206 swipes
  • RWJ students: 60 individuals for 2,012 swipes
  • Nurses (PA, NP): 256 individuals for 1,370 swipes
  • Attendings: 164 individuals for 1,128 swipes
  • Report was submitted to John Schwarz to forward to Administration
  • There was some discussion of moving all library staff and services into the south side of the hallway

Remote Access to Library Resources for Non-Rowan Employees /
  • Barbara Miller gave an update on an alternative to the citrix receiver for remote access to library resources for non-Rowan employees
  • The housestaff have been very vocal as to how this is impacting their ability to access library resources both remotely and via mobile devices on campus
  • A meeting between Cooper IT and Rowan IR was held the medical school on September 6, 2013 to discuss this issue
  • The Rowan CIO, Mira Hand, proposed an EZProxy solution using a Shibboleth server
  • The Cooper CIO, Jay Raman agreed to the proposed solution acknowledging it would take time to build out this server

  • Cooper IT and Rowan IR will work on building out a Shibboleth server that will allow easier access for non-Rowan employees

  • R. Lee solicited input from both the M1 and M2 class
  • Students are satisfied with library staff and resources
  • She did have the same question posed by a number of students, why don’t we have a subscription to UpToDate?
  • Barbara Miller updated the committee on the history of the decision by both institutions not to subscribe to UpToDate
  • For CUH: Dr. Snehal and B. Miller met with representatives from LWW to come up with a proposal which was then forwarded to the Department Chiefs who voted not to subscribe
  • For CMSRU: The Deans voted not to subscribe to this resource for the medical school

  • R. Lee stated she would take this information back to the student body

How to work with user groups? /
  • Dr. Brian Gable and Chief Resident, Nayan Desai, discussed an idea the Internal Medicine residents would like to propose to the library staff
  • The IM residents would like to form a working group with the librarians to develop a portal for the library resources that they use most often and are most relevant to their patient care and education needs.
  • Barbara Miller agreed that the librarians would work with the residents to develop a portal utilizing libguides. This could be a model for working to develop portals with other programs

  • Dr. Michael Kirchoff stated that the one of the links from the CUH portal to the new library website was not working
  • Dr. Snehal Gandhi discussed input from Dr. Christopher McFadden who was excused from today’s meeting.
  • Dr. McFadden would like to propose a survey of the faculty to get feedback on any issues with the new library website and interlibrary loan
