OSMOPREP DIRECTIONS for Andrew Coen, MD
General instructions for colonoscopy:
· If you are on a blood thinning medication such as Warfarin (Coumadin), Plavix, Pletal, heparin, Aggrenox or aspirin please call (402) 465-4545 for further instructions. This is VERY IMPORTANT!!
· Arthritis medications such as Celebrex, ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, Nuprin), naproxen (Aleve), or ketoprofen (Orudis) should be held for 3-5 days prior to your procedure.
· The nurse will give you instructions regarding your other medications.
· Please bring a current list of medications and supplements.
· YOU WILL NEED A DRIVER TO TAKE YOU HOME. A responsible friend or family member must accompany you home.
The day before your procedure drink clear liquids only for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Clear liquids include Jell-O (no red, blue or purple), black coffee, apple juice, white grape juice, cranberry juice, tea, clear broth, sodas, water, and Gatorade. **Solid foods, milk, or milk products are NOT ALLOWED.
1 You may have clear liquids up to three (3) hours prior to your procedure.
OR
1 You may have nothing to drink after midnight.
WARNING: Do not use if you have a history of kidney disease or heart failure. On rare occasion this medication has been related to severe electrolyte abnormalities and the development of kidney disease.
Before beginning the following steps, have your prescription for 32 OSMOPREP TABLETS filled at your pharmacy.
1.) Starting at ___4 pm___ the evening before your procedure, take 4 Osmoprep tablets every 15 minutes with at least 8 ounces of a Sports Drink until 20 tablets have been consumed. Remain close to toilet facilities.
Drink Gatorade or similar sports drink when taking the tablets. (no red, blue or purple)
2.) The Second Regimen at 9:00 pm the evening before your scheduled procedure take 4 Osmoprep Tablets every 15 minutes with at least 8 ounces of a Sports Drink until the remaining 12 tablets have been consumed. Remain close to toilet facilities.
OR
If you are scheduled after 12 noon, take the second regimen starting at 7:30am the morning of your procedure.
