President’s Report: Randy Campbell
Agenda (Discussion -in bold)
·  Jim Jungwirth from Water Cities to address the board - Jim thanked the board for helping to promote the Oshkosh West vs. North Varsity Girls soccer game that helped support the Wounded Warrior Project. They raised about $150 with the 50 /50 raffle. He would like to continue to do this every year as a fundraiser.
·  Any other guests / non board members present tonight? - Drew Niehans - Drew stated that he is interested in joining the board.
·  Andy Reigh has volunteered to fill our boys' registrar position as Chris takes on the VP role. He would begin with the August board meeting. Need a motion to accept Andy in this role. Motion approved and Andy Reigh is elected as United's Boys' Registrar.
·  Games Commissioner Position is affectively open immediately. Randy has done this role for several years and will step down as soon as someone wants to volunteer. Attend scheduling meetings, work with league 1 online and schedule / reschedule games.
·  Per the by-laws, we need 2/3rds vote of general membership at an annual meeting to amend our by-laws. During the spring meeting I'd propose we add back in 3 member at large positions to the board as a way of getting volunteers on the board and familiar with what we do, who can move into other spots.
·  OUSC received a $ 50 fine from East Central and paid all the referee fees for a game our coach canceled the day of the game vs. New Holstein. Need at least 48 hours notice to cancel a game.
·  Received positive feedback from the referee coordinator on one of our coaches, Dani Sobralski…
·  Water Cities team playing two home games next weekend at the YMCA. Paul T. said not a regular thing, just allowed because that is our tournament weekend. ( u14 state team )
·  Spring schedule is well underway. Most canceled games have been rescheduled and no issues with teams or game schedules that I'm aware of.
·  Waterfest July 24th. Sister Hazel the headliner. Should be a good crowd. Kari can start contacting parents anytime, but likely after the tournament may be best. Matt - post a note on the website with the date.
·  Water Cities Discussion.
·  Need to make a motion to form a committee to study the possible merging with Water Cities. I'll be involved. Matt needs to be involved regarding coaches / teams… Any other volunteers? This would be a temporary committee with duration of 1 year or less. Would be disbanded by the board if no -longer useful to the best interest of the club to have the committee.
Discussion / Comments:
The board had a closed discussion regarding talks with Water Cities. A committee will be formed to continue discussions with Water Cities. The board feels good about the idea of Water Cities merging with United.
Vice President's Report: Chris Billstrom
Rob Mullen- interested in the new Academy Director position.
This type of feeder program is needed. Academy is for players 7-9 years old. It is a year round program. Other clubs have this type of program already in place.
Rob currently teaches 3rd grade at Cabrini. He loves soccer. He coaches Lourdes High School girls. He coaches a U10 and a U6 team with Oshkosh Youth Soccer Club.
Board members voted and Rob Mullen was elected to the Academy Director Position for United.
Suggestion - to create flyers to distribute for the Academy. Also, possibly add U10 teams to our tournaments.
______
Do we want to continue playing tournaments in July? Do we want to add more games or shift the season? Chris will bring this issue up at the next central meeting.
______
Do we want to wait until our Spring Meeting to mention the Water Cities Discussions to club members or do we want to consider having a Fall Meeting?
"Water Cities is welcome to join our club." Chris stated he is interested in looking at Water Cities policies / core values in order to continue with the success they have had, especially when it comes to girls' soccer. What are the differences between the two clubs?
Tournament Director's Report : Bob Stelzer
Thank you to Randy, Andy and Kari for tournament help. It takes many people to organize the tournament. Registration, Check in, and Parking are all in good order for tournament. Also, we have some new sponsors this year.
Treasurer’s Report: David Seekings -
"All set" for the tournament.
Coaching Coordinators' Reports: Matt Callahan and Sohaila Akhavein
Tryouts have been a "mess". WISA wants tryouts at the same time. Kids have games and tryouts in the same week.
Would like to push the time line for try outs back to late June.
2 coaches are leaving. May need to recruit more.
Secretary's Report: Sonya Reigh – no report
Field Commissioner's Report - John Bores
John will request to have fields lined 2 or 3 days before the tournament at County Park. OYCS has a "team" of parents mowing and trimming fields.
Registrars' Report: Jenny Ostertag and Chris Billstrom
Registration went well. However, there are concerns about how we can be better equipped for inclement weather. Can registration be done someplace where there is a shelter? There is currently no place for people to go when it storms except their vehicles. Something to consider when planning future registration / try outs.
Volunteer Coordinator: Kari Vis
For our tournament, some people who volunteered for concessions were moved to field marshal positions. Kari suggested that child volunteers can be the "runners" and parents can handle the money when in helping out concessions. Kari will email parents to remind them of their times.
Next Meeting scheduled for: Sun. August 3rd, 2014 at 7:30 at Firehouse #17.
