June Virtue – Gratitude

Principal’s Message

It is hard to believe this is the last month of school. Students and staff continue to be busy with track meets, playday, year-end assessments, and many other activities.

Osborne hosted our Volunteer Appreciation and Talent show in May. Thank you to Ms. Henry and Mrs. Dragseth and to the awesome performers who put on a marvelous show for our volunteers and families.

On behalf of the Osborne students, staff and school community council, we would like to thank our parents and family members for the support we have received all year long. Our volunteers help us by representing our school community council, reading with our students, driving to events, flooding and shoveling the rink, hosting Family Fun Night as well as family movie/skate night, Year End Barbeque, Harvest Dinner and many other extras around the school.

Osborne staff appreciates all the support from home including reading agenda books, listening to your child read, assisting with homework, working on our smart goals, reading at home, sending healthy snacks and lunches and encouraging your child to do their best!

Just a reminder that over the summer, students can always access our Osborne School web page where they will find many educational activities to keep them occupied in their spare time.

City Track Meet

On Tuesday & Wednesday, June 6 and 7, our students from grades 4 - 8 look forward to a competitive and rewarding time at the Harry Jerome Track (behind Carlton School). Every student participating will receive a schedule of his or her events for each day. We will leave the school on both days at 9:00 a.m. and events will begin at 10:00 a.m. Parents are responsible for picking up or arranging a ride for their child at the track after their last event each day, as busses will not be available to take them home. Also, please have students bring sunscreen and wear appropriate clothing for the weather (no jeans please). Bring a bag lunch or money for the canteen for lunch hour. Students need to let staff know if they need to withdraw from an event. Mrs. Christian and Mr. Volk will be stationed at the triple jump for the day. A more detailed informational note will be sent home with students. Some students have been practicing on a regular basis and hopefully their hard work will pay off. Thanks to Mrs. Holmen, Mrs. Christian, Mrs. Zanidean and Mr. Volk for running practices over the noon hours for the last few weeks.

Osborne Student Art Work

Congratulations to Jony Schneider, Tye Richard, Caiden Forest, Emma Leland, Brooklynn Gregg, Jordan Enequist and Mason Crain. Their artwork was chosen to be displayed at the Education Centre. Their creations will be on display for approximately a year! Good job!

Osborne Playday

We have set our Playday for Friday, June 9. Our Grade 1 to 6 students are looking forward to an active and fun day of events. We hope parents and guardians will be able to join us for all or part of the day. Activities will start at 10:30 a.m. Please contact the office if you are able to volunteer this day.

Milk Program

We have had a successful year providing milk to our students here at Osborne School. A big thank you goes out to Mrs. Frantik for coordinating and picking up the milk each week, as well as our Grade 7/8 students for delivering the milk every day. The milk program is now over for this year. Those students who have punches left on their card can finish them again in the fall.

Library News and Reading Room

All library books are due back into the library by Thursday, June 22 for the school year-end. We appreciate that parents/guardians help their children find any books belonging to the library and return them as soon as possible. Overdue lists will be sent home with the students to aid you in looking for these books.

The Home Reading Program is now finished for this school year as well. Please return all books (green bags) to the school by Thursday, June 22.

News from the grade 7/8 classroom

We would just like to thank everyone and their involvement with all the special activities this year at Osborne School - from our monthly spirit days to all the fundraising support of the local/global issues this year.

We will continue with Hat Days in June, so please bring $1 if you would like to wear your hat on a Friday.

We have purchased five education kits so far this year and are hoping to purchase one, possibly two more. Thank you again for your support. Osborne students, staff, and families are the best!

Grade 8 Farewell Assembly

On Tuesday, June 27 at 1:00 p.m. we invite parents, grandparents, and friends to join us as we say farewell to our Grade 8 students. There will also be award presentations to students. Following the assembly, our Grade 8 students and their guests will have refreshments and photo opportunities.

Osborne Family BBQ

The Osborne School Council would like to extend an invitation to all students, parents, and Osborne community members to attend our Family BBQ on Tuesday, June 27 from 5:30-7:00 p.m. A note will be going home with details.

Report Cards & Last Day

Students are done classes for this school year on Thursday, June 29.

Report Cards will be sent home with students on this day as well.

Osborne School Kindergarten Registration for Fall 2017

If your child will be of Kindergarten age for this fall (he/she will be 5 years old by December 31, 2017) we would like to know. Please phone us at 306-

922-8078. If you know of another family that has a child of Kindergarten age for next year, and lives in the Osborne area, please let them know. We have information brochures on the Kindergarten program in our school. The information on Kindergarten numbers is important for staffing requests and groupings for the fall. Thank you for your assistance.

First Day of School

Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at 9 a.m. is the first day of classes for students in the fall. Please encourage any new families or new Kindergarten students for the fall to contact us at 306-922-8078.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR SCHOOL BUS

Any students needing the school bus this fall must be registered.

Registering your child for bussing is necessary, but not every year. Please only re-register if the students’ information is changing. This may include change of school, address or contact information. Registering online is quick and easy. Doing so now will ensure your child is placed on the proper bus for the first day of school. Not registering on time will result in delays in having your child assigned a bus. It may take several days into the new school year to arrange their busing.

The direct link to register is https://www3.srsd119.ca/busgarage/transport/request.php or you can simply type “Sask. rivers school bus” in a search engine (we recommend Google) and we will surely pop up.

If you have any questions please contact your school or the Transportation Department- 306 763-2323

Thank you,

Ryan Bruce Manager of Transportation

For families that cannot complete the registration online, we still have the form that can be filled out and returned to the school. We ask that the school scan/email them using the instructions below. We highly recommend the families do the online registration themselves.
