Instructions: This OPSC 2017 PLAYER-RATING TALLY SHEET consists of space for Head Coaches to log an assessment of each player on your team along with the basic OPSC rating guidance and instruction to complete this formutilizing the OPSC 5-Point Rating System - The OPSC Board of Directorsis the sole determining body regarding all players ratings and has all authority in determining each final player rating based on statistical consensus and averaging by the OPSC.

Each OPSC Season, Head Coaches are tasked with rating players in respect to the age appropriate technical skills expected at the division level in which they are currently playing.Every child is unique and deserves some careful thought as to their specific rating in relation to their individual growth as a soccer player as well as for contributions as a player to their team. In addition to skill level, each player's ability to work with teammates and take direction can also be incorporated into the coach's decision on where to mark their kids on the 5-point scale. Non-specific adjustments must also be taken into consideration in regards to the age/grade level of the individual player in the combined grade levels. Example: Johnny was rated as a "4" last year in the Boys 3/4 Grade Division as a fourth grader and has now been registered for the current season in the Boys 5/6 Grade Division as a fifth grader also playing with older sixth grade kids in the 5/6 Grade Division. Careful consideration should be taken by the assessing (rating) coach to factor in the age disparity between fifth and sixth graders and score Johnny appropriately in comparison to the age and experience of his current Division peers - Johnny may now only be a "3" rating due to being now in the younger grade of the combined-grades instead of being in the older grade category in the 3/4 Division the year before.

Rating Guidance Criteriaby Skill Category

Technical / Coaches will concentrate on the evaluation of the players’ dribbling, passing and ball control abilities including: turning, shielding, vision, feints/fakes, balance and touch while dribbling; passing with accuracy, pace, timing and deceptiveness; and controlling techniques using various surfaces while maintaining eye contact with the ball and ultimately preparing the ball for the next move.
Tactical / Coaches will concentrate on the evaluation of players’ overall skills in developing tactical play including: field awareness; communication; leadership; awareness of organization and shape of play; ability to play on and off the ball; and ability to support, create options and make appropriate runs that support the attack or defense.
Functional Attacking / Coaches will concentrate on the evaluation of players’ ability to maintain possession under pressure, create individual and team space, turn on a defender, recognize and take the direct route to goal, plus anticipation, preparation, decisiveness and timing when shooting.
Functional Defending / Coaches will concentrate on the evaluation of players’ defending control and balance, ability to establish appropriate marking distance, goal-side/ball-side position, ability to prevent an attacker from turning and tackling skills.
