COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course is designed to analyze the sociological and behavioral theories and practices relevant to educational organizations. Topics will include but will not be limited to historical and contemporary perspectives, organizational and leadership theories, learning and intelligence theories, motivation, effective schools and school reform, culture and climate, and change, decision making, and conflict resolution.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Students will be expected:

 to analyze the historical development of organizational thought

 to analyze and determine both the usefulness and appropriateness of bureaucratic, human resource, political, and cultural structures

 to understand the importance of ethics as part of the organizational structure

 to understand the perspectives developed by theorists, empirical researchers and practitioners for the purpose of applying such perspectives to practice

 to reflect on practice related to organizational processes

You are to identify an issue within your immediate level of your organization and thoroughly analyze that issue from the various organizational constructs. You are to then redesign the organization as such relates to the issues and improve upon your organizations processes and effectiveness.

Final Exam

The final examination is designed to give the student an opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge concerned with organizational behavior and organizational effectiveness. The examination will model that format of the comprehensive doctoral examination.
