Designers – step up and show your Proudly Udubs graphs! We’re looking for your best design interpretation of UWC as your alma mater. Best part about this? The winning designs will go on the UWC Alumni T-shirts for the 2014summer winter range and will be sold in the Campus Lifestyle Shop!

Facts about UWC:

So, what’s the deal? It’s simple – UWC has more than 150 000 alumni that have walked through the corridors of this University. It opened its doors in 1960 and have for generations educated and produced top scholars and academics. We want to celebrate our university by showing our pride, loyalty, passion and commitment for the university through your t-shirt designs.

THE BRIEF:

Create a design or illustration that communicates the message of UWC student(s) being proud and happy to be a student at UWC. We want to see pride, versatility, passion, commitment, loyalty and positivity!

But let’s be clear – we’re not looking for ranting and raving and disgruntle whining - this contest is about celebrating the university and the positive effects it can create for us and our continent. Your creation should promote the positive and practical ways in which UWC can make the world a better place!

Contest Do’s and Don’ts

  • Domake use of the UWC logo and the UWC alumni logo
  • Do make the Design 210 x 297 mm
  • Do create both a T-shirt design for a summer and winter range (2 x T-shirt designs)
  • Don’tuse any fowl language or make reference to any prejudice or racist illustration or comments

RULES:

1. No obscenities, hate speech or depiction of drug use - this contest is about promoting the loyalty, passion and commitment to UWC.

2. Only original works will be accepted.

3. Each designer may submit up to five (5) designs.

4. Winners will be chosen by the Alumni design panel, in conjunction with Campus Lifestyle Store.

7. The contest will run from 15 January 2014 –07 March 2014. Final winners will be chosen and announced on 01 April 2014 via the website and Facebook page. The winning designs are final and no correspondence will be entered into.

This release form concerns the design listed above produced by and submitted to UWC Alumni T-Shirt Contest 2014. By signing below, the artist (s) grant non-exclusive rights to the University to publish, display, or otherwise make this design available for viewing , whether on the internet, within the company orin other venues. These rights will not expire but will exist for as long as the University continues to use this design. Bysigning below, the author agrees to the Terms and Conditions on the reverse side and also warrantee that they are thefull owner(s) of the copyright in question and have the full legal rights to grant to UWC Alumni Relations Office non-exclusive rights.

Terms and Conditions

  1. If your creation is the winning design in any competition held by UWC Alumni Relations Office, and is accepted for use (use refers to any implementation of that creation which may take the form -but is not limited to- garments, merchandise, printed and/or online media as well as sublicensing that design in any reproduction that UWC Alumni Relations Office deem fit. Hereafter referred to as "the products".) You assign the entire right, title and interest in and to the copyright to your creation. This cessation includes the right to sue for past infringement and the right to further sublicense of the creation in any form, manner or for any purpose. You also acknowledge that you waive all "moral", "artistic", "constitutional" and/or "ethical" rights that you may have in and to your creation.
  2. Creations may take the form of any original image and/or slogan created by the person who submitted the artwork that comply with the rules and regulations, terms and conditions listed in the UWC Alumni T-Shirt Competition Submission Terms and Conditions.
  3. If your creation is the winning creation in any given event or competition, UWC Alumni Relations Office may use the creation in any manner that UWC Alumni Relations Office deems fit including - but not limited to - commercial purposes, changing the creation in any way or quantity, creating derivative works thereof, using the design for marketing and/or promotional purposes both online and offline. You also relinquish to UWC Alumni Relations Office all legal rights to the creations including the right to register the copyright for that creation with any copyright office both in South Africa and abroad in your name. Rather UWC Alumni Relations Office will be registered as the claimant and sole proprietor of said creation. In the eventuality that the UWC Alumni Relations Office requires any form of information to effect this copyright, you also agree to provide the required information in any form at no cost to the UWC Alumni Relations Office.
  4. In ceding the creation and all rights thereto to the UWC Alumni Relations Office, you also cede the right to sublicense, sell, resell or distribute or authorise any third party to use or reproduce that creation in any form or fashion for any purpose whether commercial or otherwise.
  5. Once the creation has been submitted to UWC Alumni Relations Office for consideration for a competition or entry into any other event, launch, contest or media event held by UWC Alumni Relations Office, you may not use, sublicense, authorise for use, reproduce, submit to any other competition or contest that creation for ninety (90) days after the competition you have entered with UWC Alumni Relations Office closes. Once ninety (90) days have passed from the aforementioned time, if your creation is not chosen for reproduction by the UWC Alumni Relations Office, you are free to use your creation for any commercial or non-commercial purpose.
  6. By submitting your creation to UWC Alumni Relations Office you acknowledge that the creation is a completely original work/ design that has never previously been published, produced, reproduced, licensed and is your own work. Furthermore the creation contains no trademarks, logos, copyrighted material, or any other intellectual property belonging to any third party, or any material, which UWC Alumni Relations Office in its sole discretion, deems to be profane or offensive.
  7. The winning creation from the t-shirt design competition will be selected from designs submitted for the competition within the submission period stipulated on the design brief posting for that specific competition. The submission cut off date for the competition will be stated within the design brief. UWC Alumni Relations Office reserves the right to change any times and dates concerning any competition at any time of the UWC Alumni Relations Office choosing. Notification of that change will be posted on the UWC Alumni website.
  8. The winning creation will be chosen by the UWC Alumni Design panel and approved. The creation that receives the most votes from the design panel will be the overall winner.
  9. The prize will be sent within within 30 days of receipt and approval of the winning creation by UWC Alumni Relations Office. If the hi-resolution artwork is not deemed suitable for print as determined by UWC Alumni Relations Office will notify you of the reason(s) for its determination by email and will make a good-faith effort to assist you in presenting a suitable hi-resolution format.
  10. You acknowledge that UWC Alumni Relations Office reserves the right to decline or select a creation for consideration for any reason, including poor design, failed communication, artwork resolution issues, profanity. These reasons are subject to change at any given time with or without notice at the sole discretion of UWC Alumni Relations Office.
  11. Any creations or submitters who contravene any single or combined elements of the UWC Alumni Relations Office Terms and Conditions or at the sole discretion and opinion of UWC Alumni Relations Office can be excluded from the competition at any time without notice.
  12. The decisions of UWC Alumni Relations Office are final and binding.
