  1. Call to order

●John McClellan called to order 5:45 p.m.

  1. Review and Approval 2016 Meeting Minutes from San Diego

●One amendment made – Change “Heather Canary” to “Hamilton Bean” (the chair of the Org Comm Interest Group last year) under “Recognitions” and “old business”

●Vote taken to approve minutes – with the one amendment

●20 Competitive Papers and Panels Submitted

●16 Accepted

●64% Acceptance Rate

●We have 6 program slots this year (not including business meeting).

●Overall, this was a year on par with other years, but we can do better. The interest group was charged with encouraging more people to submit papers and to submit more panels next years

●Some discussion was had about a desire to receive more written feedback from the panel reviewers. The spirit of the discussion was on maintaining a focus on mentoring – especially from this interest group. We agreed that those volunteering to be respondents should be made more aware of best practices for reviewer to offer feedback in written form. The form of “what to expect when a reviewer” will be distributed to panel respondents (and updated if needed). Some discussion was had about also ensuring there is some written feedback for graduate students in the graduate student mentoring panel.

●Some desire to update the panel structure. Next year, consider some alternative panel structures that might be useful to

▪Description of Chair responsibilities was read and discussed

▪Call for nominations made

▪Julie Taylor was nominated

▪With no other nominees, Julie elected as chair-elect

●Secretary:

▪Description of Secretary responsibilities was read and discussed

▪Call for nominations made

▪Veronica Dawson and Rob were nominated

▪Both nominees explained why they wished to be secretary

▪Ballats passed and a vote taken – Veronica elected as secretary (9 to 4)

  1. Organizational Communication Interest Groups RAFFLE – John McClellan

●Raffle was conducted for $100 to spend at WSCA – registration fees, swag, etc.

●Passed out raffle “tickets” for participants to put names on paper

●Heewon Kim was the winner!

●Andrew Ishak is the next Org Comm Interest Group Chair

●Andrew provided an introduction to the next conference
