Binders

Organization is the Key!

Organization is a key component of success. Keeping a complete and organized binder will improve your academic success in this class. Each student will be graded on keeping a neat and well-organized binder. Some students may find this assignment difficult at first, but will eventually find it easier, and will reap the benefits in later chapters. Students will need to:

1. Acquire a three ring binder with large rings (with a 1.5 to 2 inch binding). In this binder you will keep all of the work ever done in this class in an organized sequence using labeled dividers.

2. Label the dividers according to the seven main sections below.

3. Place in the binder everything (any notes, homework, activities, labs, projects, or quizzes) used in this class in its correct place.

Generally, on the day of every exam, I will collect this binder and grade you on its content and organization. You will be given a sheet at the end of each chapter that lists all of the items that should be in the binder, in the order they were assigned or given. All of your papers should be placed in the proper dividers as given below.

Review Sheets: You will be given a review sheet at the beginning of the chapter that has the chapter’s objectives, vocabulary words, and review questions.

Notes: This section will contain notes you take during class in the sequence they were given to you.

Quizzes: Any quizzes that were given throughout a chapter.

Coursework: Any homework, activity, lab, or project that was assigned during a chapter.

Plain Notebook Paper: Your binders should have a supply of plain paper to be used for note taking and assignments throughout the year.

Past Chapters: After you turn in your binders for a grade, you can make way for the new chapter’s materials by taking out the old chapter’s papers out of the dividers, and keeping them in their proper order, and put them in this section.

Binder grades will be counted as a very large homework grade given at the end of each chapter. In some isolated cases, binder grades have been known to seriously hurt student’s grades if they are not careful. However, most often these grades typically help students pull up or make solid their grade for each chapter.

And The Two Most Important Binder Rules…

ALWAYS KEEP YOUR CURRENT HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS IN THE FRONT POCKET OF YOUR BINDER!!!

THE VERY SECOND YOU RECEIVE A PAPER, PUT IT IN ITS CORRECT DIVIDER OR PLACE IN YOUR BINDER!!!
