Breakthrough Twin Cities (BTC) prepares under-resourced students for college success and cultivates the next generation of educators. BTC is an independent 501(c)(3) organization headquartered within Mounds Park Academy in St. Paul, MN.

Position Description – Development & Communications Associate

As a nonprofit organization, Breakthrough Twin Cities relies upon philanthropy for its operations. This full-time position (40 hours) provides direct support to the Director of Development to build awareness, steward impactful relationships and enhance philanthropic support for Breakthrough Twin Cities. This position also supports the Executive Director in meeting the needs of the organization’s Board of Directors, its board committees and their functions. Additionally, this position provides overall office management for Breakthrough Twin Cities. This position reports to the Director of Development.

Responsibilities

1.  Create and manage a comprehensive gifts program from individuals through acquisition, renewal and cultivation. Programs include direct mail, telefundraising and electronic campaigns such as Give to the Max Day.

2.  Assist in the overall management of the annual spring gala. Solicit individual and corporate prospects to provide sponsorship support. Work in concert with benefit event committee to provide oversight to all event activities.

3.  Assist with corporate, foundation and government grant applications and grant reporting, as well as the management of the grants management process.

4.  Coordinate high-touch events such as Visitor Days, friend-raising and donor cultivation events.

5.  Responsible for the development and management of social media communications (Facebook, Twitter, monthly electronic newsletter) to meet the development and programming needs of the organization. Works closely with Director of Development and Executive Director to ensure accurate and timely messaging.

6.  Accountable to maintain accurate demographic and financial records in Salesforce and create/maintain accurate and user-friendly documentation to support these activities.

7.  Supports financial management in processing contracts, invoices, reimbursements, credit card and bank transactions. Works in partnership with external accounting and human resource vendors.

8.  Provides support for Board of Directors and Board Committee meetings with scheduling, meeting production and minute transcription.

9.  Provides administrative support to the Executive Director.

Qualifications

Undergraduate degree required. One or more years of experience working in a development, marketing, sales or related field.

Commitment to confidentiality in all aspects of the position. Effective oral, written and interpersonal communications skills. Highly organized and detail-oriented. Ability and desire to work in small, fast-paced environment. Requires occasional evening and weekend hours. Proficiency with Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Experience in database management, experience with Salesforce a plus.
