Oregon FFA State President, Luke Wildhaber, called the January 18, 2014 meeting of the Oregon FFA State Executive Committee Meeting to order at 8:01 AM with opening ceremonies, followed by a welcome and introductions of members and guests present at Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon.

MINUTES

Jake moved to approve the minutes as presented, Jessie Hyde seconded. Motion passed.

OREGON FFA BOARD OF DIRECTORS REPORT

Short meeting, due to the fact that it’s just the beginning of a new year.

·  Talked about a new vision

o  That ever student knows where their food and fibers comes from

·  Talked about the National Officer Candidate process operates

o  Revision of the system

·  Discussion about State convention

OREGON FFA ALUMNI REPORT

·  State convention plans

o  Dr. Snyder will be performing this year

·  Robert Shmidigt was elected Western Region vice president

·  Summit is coming up

o  Will discuss the affiliate system

OREGON DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION REPORT

·  The equity lenses

o  Closing the achievement gap (statistics of academic performance between minorities and whites)

·  Discussed Perkins grant

·  Ion School District and Glendown of Umpqua FFA District are potentially new FFA chapters?

OREGON STATE UNIVERSITY AG. ED. REPORT

·  CASE institute this summer

·  There will be a Summer Ag institute

·  Ag in the classroom is searching for a new director for their program

OSU COLLIGATE FFA REPORT

·  Recently worked with the Ag in the Classroom program for their banquet

·  They will be attending and helping with state convention

o  They have not received any information

·  CDE days is in progress

·  They will be working with the Oregon Women in Ag program soon

OREGON FFA FOUNDATION REPORT

·  Happy to report that the foundation succeeded in raising all of the funds for this year without dipping into reserve funds

o  $350,000 was raised

o  Over $50,000 was donated in kind services

§  Accounting, etc.

·  We will continue to work to raise more money with the help of Kevin White and the State officers

·  1380 The Bull AM radio station will be broadcasting state convention this year in Bend

TEAM AG ED REPORT

·  “Think Tank” of many different FFA divisions (FFA Alumni, Colegiate FFA, etc.)

·  February 7th will be an Ag teacher’s workshop

o  This is for teachers that have been teaching from 1-5 years

·  Oregon Team Ag Ed is being used as a model that the rest of the states can follow

o  Many other states wonder how Oregon does it so well!

·  Ellen Thomas, national director for team Ag Ed, identified Oregon as one of the top states for our efforts with team Ag Ed

·  Team Ag Ed has sent requests into region coordinators of the state to enhance the success of new agricultural teachers.

·  Nick Nelson was elected Western Region vice president

OVATA REPORT

Submit applications to apply for best program or Ag teacher of the year at state convention

ILSSO REPORT

State officers gave a report on their recent trip to South Africa. They took part in an online course before attending where they had to write reports and read articles and write reviews on what they read. These courses were on how the cultures are different and what the history of South Africa is like. Gave a slide show with some of their pictures.

2014 OREGON FFA NOMINATING COMMITTEE PROCESS

Lee recommended to the committee that Zech Hintz be asked to be the nominating committee PSO coordinator. Lee has also asked Marty Campbell, Oregon FFA ‘s leadership director to serve in the advisor role for the nominating committee. Marty will be putting together the materials for the committee. Marty Campbell gave a brief report on how the nominating committee will be slightly different then it has been in the past. Creation of the nominating committee handbook. There will be a webinar for state officer candidates the end of February. Jake moved to approve Zech as the PSO coordinator for state nominating committee, seconded by Addie Howell. Motion Passed.

2014 STATE CONVENTION PREVIEW

Our Theme is BREAKTHOURH

The 2015 convention site application from Silverton (Main gym holds 1,600, with all of overflow rooms, the school can seat 2,400 people)

Brecklin moved to have the 2015 convention be held in Silverton, seconded by Addie. Motion passed.

2013 LEADERSHIP TOUR REVIEW

Visited over 100 schools altogether (Missed some due to weather)

New State Officer Rubric: 88% letter grade

Wanted to always be better than before

HONORARY STATE FFA DEGREE (TEACHERS)

Should be major contributors to the FFA on the State or District Level. Should show commitment to a total Ag Ed Program through Classroom, SAE and FFA Membership. Must be submitted in writing to the committee.

Gabby moved to accept the nominees for honorary state degrees, seconded by Trinity. Motion passed.

DISTINGUISHED SERVICE NOMINATIONS

The Distinguished Service Award is the highest award presented to an organization, agency, business or other group that are major contributors to the FFA. They may have already received the Honorary State FFA Degree.

Ali Key moved to accept the nominees for distinguished service, seconded by Aaron Morland. Motion passed.

OTHER ITEMS

Ian moved that Oregon FFA reconsider the state officer year extension, seconded by Aaron. Point of information was called on confirmation that the maker of the motion did vote in favor of the motion. Question asked on background of the motion for clarification. Clarification was given on those “PSOs” doing B & I visits, leadership camps, etc. Discussion followed on motion. Officers requested a schedule and clarification on what that term extension looks like if we continue towards the extension. Extended ambassador program for PSO’s through the association – they could apply for this position and be selected. Point of Information – would like to hear from Marty since he has seen them at camps. Recommended the creation of a committee to look at this and report back at the April meeting. Question’s been called. Jessica moved previous question, seconded by Mitch. Previous Question passed. Reconsider passed.

Neal moved to amend the motion by striking the recommendation on state officer term length, seconded by Stephanie. Previous question called by Les, seconded by Mitch. Previous question passed. Vote on the amendment passed. Vote on main motion passed.

Kathy moved that a committee be formed to look at state officer concerns and probabilities\possibilities (what is that extension going to look like, what are the positives, what are the negatives (academics), do we “hire” PSO’s to come back to do B &I) on the extension with the committee being Kevin, two advisors and one current state officer, to report back by email, seconded by Mitch. Discussion followed on the creation of the committee. Mitch moved, les seconded previous question. Passed. Committee formation passed. Committee formed of Dan McNary, Kathy Mayfield, Aaron Morland, and Kevin White.

Jessica moved that the committee report back before convention, seconded by Addie. Motion Passed.

The meeting was adjourned at 10:16AM.
