Click-a-Thon – Vicky Marsing – BSF
· This year BSF is donating $1mn to the school district. BSF already has 2/3rd of this amount; will raise the additional amount pledged at Click-a-Thon and at the Wine Dinner on 1/21/12.
· STEM Coordinator has been hired.
· STEM focus in the elementary schools will be on improvement in MATH.
· BSF had 1200 donors last year. 375 are community members and the rest are BS families. We are trying to increase the participation of BS families as currently only about 30% of the BS families participate. All families are asked to consider $1/day. We appreciate your support. All support is appreciated.
· Q: How is BSF using social media to reach out to the 70% of families that haven’t donated to BSF .
A: List-Serv messages are sent to all district families. BSF is also on Facebook.
School Update, Dr. Lewis, Principal
· Thanks to all parents on behalf of the teachers/staff for the support given following the death of Suzy Peters. There was a beautiful memorial last Friday attended by over 250 people. The district office has provided the support staff needed to help students and staff deal with the loss.
· Measurement of Academic Progress (MAP Testing) – this testing was piloted last year in math/reading at the elementary schools. MAP is a tool used to assist teachers to differentiate instruction based on students' varying levels of reading/math. The MAP test provides growth measurement, charting progress over time. It is important to recognize that this is just one amongst a variety of assessment tools used in judging performance.
