Director, Steve Cocchiola: Pancake Breakfast concerts raised questions about the acoustics in the gym due to HVAC fans. Next year, the concerts will be in the gym to house combined concerts with Orchestra, MIM & Choir. 2017 Trip: School Board Ok’d trip. Travelling to Nashville & Gatlinburg. Trip dates Tuesday – Saturday (April 18 – 22 ?). Right after spring break & well before AP testing. Highlights will include: RCA Recording, Vanderbilt Orchestra, performing at Dollywood & country-themed dinner.

2016-17 Orchestra: Calendar will include COYO in the fall, (not hosting OMEA), pancake breakfast fundraiser, last concert will be in April. Orchestra periods during the school day will be 2nd (Concert), 3rd(String), 8th(Chamber), 9th(Theory). Choir & Orchestra will be back to back. Mr. C. & Mrs. O’Neill will work together at the Middle School where orchestra will mix grades/orchestra levels for a more satisfying & challenging orchestra. Earnings from Pancake breakfast may be used for up-to-date music technology at the middle school for sound system in band and choir rooms. In the future, an acoustic/digital piano might be considered.

Mattress Fundraiser may include Vocal Music Boosters, to uniformly cover the cost of the trip, since the 2 groups take the 2017 trip together.

OLD BUSINESS

Coffee Makers plus griddles and pancake makers, needed for music events, like the pancake breakfast. Invoice was received from Vocal Music Boosters for the Orchestra Booster share.

New Podium: Steve Cocchiola: (Was not discussed because of Mr. C. conflict with school board meeting). (Previously: Our current fine furniture podium was hand built in 1998 by Bob Matusek. It was meant for special concert use. Current daily use is causing the podium much wear and tear. Discussed proposal for building 2 ‘utility’ podiums for everyday use and splitting the cost with band, costing less than $300. Proposed a plaque to recognize Bob Matusek, since he donated his craftsmanship (orchestra paid for materials).) Tabled to explore funding options.

EYS Framing: (Was not discussed).

NEW BUSINESS

Friend of the Orchestra: Mr. Cocchiola suggested that the Orchestra Boosters consider recognizing an individual who has been “instrumental” to the music program over the year. (It could be a music booster award to someone helpful to band/orchestra/choir/drama – “Friend of Music in the Arts”). They could be recognized at the Orchestra Banquet with a perpetual plack. Boosters would have to create criteria. Discussion tabled.

Concert May 17: Congratulatory messages open to all grades. Contact Arlene about roses. Program needs to be written.

Uniforms & Garment Bags: Nancy Kraig found online prices for garment bags apx. $18 for 65” long. Mr. Cocchiola found bags for $22.50 with a shoe pocket and imprint (setup fee additional). Discussed how to cover the cost of this purchase, number of bags, color. Orchestra Boosters would need apx. $2600 - $3000 to buy 130 bags which would then be a part of the uniform rental. Nancy Kraig will check with Patti Hedrick to see if this is financially feasible. Uniform Committee is needed. TABLED: Discussion of covering the overall cost of the garment bags, how many & which garment bag to buy. Melissa Rohrer Moved to increase uniform rental fee to $35 to cover the rental of garment & garment bag, garment drycleaning. 2nd Sue Dalesio. APPROVED
