I am replying from Orby Parish Council to your letter of 2nd April. This reply does not go into any detail as the time scale for reply is rather short.

As a Parish Council we would like to register our grave concerns at the swathes of rural land which will be disrupted by this development. None of the council have any expertise in this field but it would seem that RWE are determined not to consider any other route. Just to look at a map of how far this route will travel over land makes no sense at all. Humberside is geared to this kind of development and would, in fact, welcome it.

There is a big issue in relation to the impact on the environment both before, during and after the installation, for example the heat given off to the land which may cause crops to grow at a different rate to others. There is evidence from other sources that there is a danger from possible electro magnetic interference and there is the disruption to agricultural land which could be up to half a mile across and miles and miles long down from Anderby Creek to Bicker Fen.

In the report, there is no mention of how the obstacles of ditches and dykes (a couple of which are more like rivers than dykes) over the route, are to be dealt with. We were told that the cables would be laid 1.5 meters deep but that is going to be totally useless for much of the land where ditches and dykes (necessary for flooding reasons) crisscross the land.

There is an issue of the rural Lincolnshire roads which would be used to put in this development and, in fact, the road through Orby is already a dangerous route even in the quieter months without the holiday traffic. The road is totally unsuitable for construction traffic, or if the road through Addlethorpe (Marsh Lane) is used, how does construction traffic get to that road?

I am enclosing the Orby Village Plan which clearly shows that the majority of Orby residents are concerned about the current traffic through the village (page 12) let alone any further increase, especially larger vehicles. The action plan also mentions environmental issues (page 14) whereby we should protect the countryside wildlife and footpaths in the village. Also on page 14 you will note that the vast majority of residents are opposed to any applications for wind farms.

I am sure that all the parishes concerned are totally opposed to this on-shore route and we would ask that a totally independent Government enquiry is set up before any development of this nature goes ahead.

Yours sincerely

Kath Hayes

Clerk to Orby Parish Council
