In order to prepare for the reading of our intense historical novel, Animal Farm, you will need toselect one of the Topic Options below in order toresearch an aspect of history relating to the plotline. You will have three days of class in the library/computer lab to research this topic, and four days to create a multimedia project in order to share your research findings with the class. An MLA-formatted Bibliography listing all information and media sources is required. You may need to do some work for this research project at home or after school in the school library, which is open until 3:30 PM daily and until 4:00 PM on Wednesdays.

OPTION #1: Research socialism, communism, and totalitarianism and compare all three political systems. Identify the principles each system has in common, a nation that currently uses this system and what life is like for those living in that country under that system, and finally, explain how the three systems differ from each other.

OPTION #2: Select one of the historical figures relating to the Russian Revolution
Czar Nicholas II, Vladimir Lenin, Josef Stalin, or Leon Trotsky – and describe his background, rise to power, personal strengths and weaknesses, role in the Russian Revolution, and what (if anything) followed his political career. You may also select to research the U.S. involvement in World War l or Woodrow Wilson.

OPTION #3: Research the following leaders: Adolph Hitler of Germany, Winston Churchill

of England, and Josef Stalinof Russia, their participation in World War II, and compare their leadership styles and the effects they had on their own people. You may also select the U.S. involvement in World War ll or Franklin D. Roosevelt.

OPTION #4: Research the concepts of the bourgeoisie and proletariat social levels in society. Explain what these statuses are, how they came about, if one can move from one level to another, countries that used this social ranking and the effects of it on the people, and countries that continue to use this today.

You will create an INTERACTIVE ONLINE POSTER called a GLOG using the Web 2.0 tool GLOGSTER. Here are a few examples of GLOGS about historical figures or events:
