THE CAROLE JOHNSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The Carole Johnson Memorial Scholarship established in 1963 by friends to memorialize a young woman who was devoted to a variety of academic, community, and extra-curricular activities at George Washington High School. The purpose of the fund is to recognize young women who show promise of future achievement and service. Selections of students for the Carole Johnson Memorial Scholarships isbased on Christian character, unselfish service to others, potential for future contributions to the human community, extra-curricular activities, academic achievement and personality. Scholarship recipients are students who best exemplify Carole Johnson’s commitment to academics, school and community service activities, and dedicated to unselfish service to others.

Eligibility:The student must:

  • Be a senior lady graduating from GW June 2015
  • Demonstrate outstanding commitments to academics, school and community activities, unselfish service to others and potential for future contributions to the human community
  • Plan to enroll in an accredited four-year college or university in the continental United States the following academic year

The Roanoke Valley Wrestling Association awards an annual scholarship in memory of Stan Parker.

THE BOOKER SCHOLARSHIP AWARD

The Booker Award is granted yearly to two former Glenwood Elementary School students who graduate from the Danville Public High School System. This award named in memory of Jack and Ilah Tate Booker, who valued education, and in honor of their daughter, Margaret Booker Gabal, a dedicated educator.

The Webster and Elizabeth Marshall Award is given annually to a student who graduates from a high school in the Danville Public School System and is accepted to Averett University. The award is named in the memory of Webster Marshall and in honor of Elizabeth Marshall, to fulfill their desire to support education by assisting Danville Public Schools graduates who wish to continue their education at Averett University.

HUGHES MEMORIAL FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS

The Hughes Memorial Foundation awards scholarships to individuals for higher education or job training with preference given to needy and/or disadvantaged children living in the Virginia counties of Pittsylvania, Halifax, Mecklenburg, Charlotte, Campbell, Bedford, Franklin, Henry and Patrick; the North Carolina counties of Stokes, Rockingham, Caswell, and Person; and the cities of Virginia and North Carolina that are located geographically within those counties. Needy and/or disadvantaged children in these counties who are linear offspring of Hughes Memorial Home when it was an orphanage receive preference for scholarship funds.

SONY KINGOFF MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

In honor of Sonny Kingoff, a longtime supporter of academics and athletics at GWHS, a scholarship opportunity is available to a graduating senior who has participated in varsity sports (including cheerleading).

Eligibility:The applicant must:

  • Be a graduating senior
  • Have participated in any sport, including varsity cheerleading.
  • Have shown high moral character, have maximized his or her ability in sports endeavors, and have exhibited leadership
  • Have achieved academically to the best of his or her abilities

2015 STUDENT VIEW SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

The 2015 Student-View Scholarship Program is offering $11,000 worth of scholarships to high school seniors who plan to attend a four-year college, community/junior college or career school.

The program includes:

  • One $4,000 scholarship
  • Two $1,000 scholarships
  • Ten $500 scholarships

The University of Richmond, Richmond’s Promise to Virginia” provides a financial aid package equal to full-time tuition and standard room and board (without loans) to Virginia residents who:

  • Are submitting a first year admission application for the first time for fall 2014
  • Qualify for admission as first time students
  • Have a total family income of $60,000 or less
  • Qualify for need-based financial aid based on Richmond’s need analysis formula
  • Are U.S. citizens or permanent residents
  • Domiciled residents of Virginia

ROANOKE COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS

Roanoke College offers numerous scholarship programs including the Roanoke College Scholars Program. The Roanoke College Scholars Program has a value of $190,000 for over four years. Please check the Roanoke College website for deadline and requirements.

JT - MINNIE MAUDE CHARITABLE TRUST SCHOLARSHIP

The trust’s primary goal is to provide higher education opportunities through financial assistance to deserving and needy students in the Danville and surrounding area. Scholarships selection is based on academic achievement and promise, financial need and other related selection criteria. The application period opens January 2015.

Eligibility:The applicant must:

  • Be a resident of Pittsylvania, Halifax, Henry Counties and all of the cities located in these counties for a minimum of twelve months at the time of the application

JOHN R. LILLARD VIRGINIA AIRPORT OPERATORS COUNCIL SCHOLARSHIP

The John R. Lillard Scholarship program is to assist future aviation leaders and to honor John R. Lillard, an aviation enthusiast and humanitarian. Mr. Lillard served in leadership positions with the Capital Region Airport Commission (which operates Richmond International Airport), Chesterfield County Airport, and Eastern Airlines.
