Position Description:

The work requires specialized knowledge of electronics theory, circuit design, computer programming, various types of equipment and materials in order to install and maintain, repair a variety of communications and electronic equipment.The work requires the ability to use hand and power tools; operate electronic testing and diagnostic equipment and read blueprints and equipment specifications. Guidelines exist in the form of technical and operational manuals, electrical codes, Federal Communications Commission rules and regulations, safety rules and requirements and equipment specifications.Employees in this class must select and apply the appropriate procedures to identify and resolve equipment and system problems.
This position will report to the Communications Supervisor.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Install and repair a variety of electronic communications equipment and facilities, including computerized monitoring systems, land and mobile radio systems, alarm, security and protection systems, electronic laboratory test equipment, remote sensing and telemetry equipment and electronic telephone systems.
  • Plan, organize, and implement plans to install and test equipment.Review plans and schematic diagrams to provide design and installation recommendations.Document change or modification.
  • Maintain communications equipment through inspection and testing programs.
  • Identify, repair problems with communications equipment and facilities at systems; board and component levels.
  • Read specifications, blue prints, manuals, and other technically related material in order to install. Maintain and repair communications equipment and systems.
  • Install, maintain, trouble-shoot and repair community antenna cable television system.
  • Investigate complaints about radio and television interference potentially related to City equipment and facilities.
  • Maintain accurate records of all electronic and mechanical systems, equipment and facilities. Updating records as necessary.
  • Program computer testing and diagnostic equipment.
  • Fabricate specialized equipment to meet specifications, make repairs, or modify designs.
  • Perform daily work independently and only unusual, special, or unanticipated tasks are reviewed by the supervisor.

Qualifications:
Education: High School Diploma.
Experience: Requires three years of experience in installing, maintaining, testing and repairing electronic communications equipment and other electronic, mechanical instruments and equipment, including two years as a lead or supervisor (or a combination of technical electronic education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class).
Licensing and Other Requirements: State of Washington Driver License.
Working Environment/Physical Demands:
  • Required to be on call 24 hours/day to respond to emergency situations.
  • Required to stand, walk, or bend for extended periods of time; work in confined spaces; work outdoors in all types of weather; and works in areas with high noise levels.

Position Description:
Seattle Parks and Recreation seeks dynamic, outgoing individuals with supervisory and urban environmental education program development experience to join our Environmental Learning Center team. You will supervise the education staff, consultants and volunteers in providing a variety of environmental education and experiential outdoor learning experiences and activities for diverse audiences at Discovery and Carkeek Parks, and at designated locations throughout Seattle including schools, parks, neighborhoods and community centers. Oversee the development, implementation and evaluation of programs and services. Assume responsibility for the daily management and operations of an Environmental Learning Facility. Help to provide leadership to the overall Environmental Education and Outdoor Learning Unit which also includes staff located at Camp Long Environmental & Outdoor Learning Center.
Job Responsibilities:
The Education Program Supervisor provides oversight for program budgets and monitors revenues and expenditures on an ongoing basis and supervises education staff including volunteers, interns, clerical support, and professional employees. The work requires knowledge of the best practices and principles involved in developing interpretive, educational, and experiential learning programs. Emphasis is placed on incorporating strategies that support Urban environmental education.
This position performs daily activities without immediate access to a supervisor/manager and is responsible for developing, recommending and implementing new policies and procedures to meet program needs. The work is performed within established departmental and citywide ordinances, guidelines, policies and procedures; but requires considerable judgment in applying and interpreting them in order to resolve unusual problems.
The work requires developing and maintaining relationships with community groups, personnel in other city departments and work units within Parks & Recreation, and other organizations in order to coordinate programming, disseminate information and develop mutually beneficial partnerships that lead to increased public benefits.
This position will lead the work of developing results frameworks and evaluating programs to identify benefits to participants and positive program impacts.
The position also requires skill in identifying community and group recreational needs, in selecting, adapting and/or creating new programs to meet those needs, in procuring the materials and resources necessary for implementing programs, and in making the most effective use of the facilities and staff. Special efforts are to be made to increase the diversity – racially, ethnically, economically – of program participants, and to ensure our programs are culturally relevant and staff and volunteers are culturally competent.
This position works Tuesdays through Saturdays. May be required to work evenings and some holidays. Work is usually performed in a City work/office environment. May work outdoors during special events or selected programs.
Examples of Duties:
  • Supervises, coordinates and evaluates the staff of the Environmental Education & Outdoor Learning (EEOL) unit including Education Program Staff, Naturalists, Recreation Leaders, Recreation Program Specialists, Recreation Attendants, Utility Laborers, volunteers, interns and temporary personnel.
  • Ensures that staff are working towards accomplishing the Unit Work Plan

The City of Seattle's Department of Planning and Development (DPD) seeks a highly motivated Electrical Plans Examiner. Job Responsibilities:
The Electrical Plans Examiner independently reviews plans and specifications for proposed electrical work to ensure conformance with electrical and safety codes relevant to each proposed plan and interprets applicable codes in light of each proposed project; work will include review of critical and complex electrical project plans for commercial, complex industrial, hospitals and high power distribution systems; and provide leadership and direction in conveying accurate information and direction to customers to assure public safety in the use of potentially hazardous electrical installations.
The work requires comprehensive knowledge of national, state, city codes, ordinances, industry standards, departmental policies, procedures, and precedents; a thorough knowledge of industrial, commercial, and residential electrical and safety codes for buildings; skill in the accurate and appropriate calculation of fault currents, basic building loads, and related electrical plan evaluation techniques; and knowledge of electrical engineering principles, methods and practices as they relate to equipment testing procedures and to electrical wiring and equipment system designs for buildings.

  • Personal contacts include electrical engineers, architects, mechanical engineers, contractors, property owners and the general public to provide information and interpretation of complex electrical code regulations. Coaching and mentoring is provided to electrical inspectors regarding interpretations of complex electrical code regulations and potentially hazardous electrical installations. The duties also include conducting field investigations as assigned; prepares and records results of all plan reviews or correspondence; issues permits and stop work orders; and performs related duties as assigned.
In addition to the primary duties of electrical plan review, an incumbent will, as assigned by management, will independently conduct electrical inspections on the normal range of new or remodeled electrical installations to verify conformance with national, state and City of Seattle electrical codes and related ordinances; evaluate compliance with minimum standards for electrical materials and construction standards; and document records of inspection results in the Department data management systems.

The GIS Application Developer performs software development and technical support functions as a member of the Geographic Information System (GIS) Applications Development team. The Analyst consults with GIS users and prospective users to identify application requirements that will support business operations. Actively participates in GIS technical team-based projects, such as software application development, web service development and data model enhancements using Esri products to support the goals and objectives of Seattle Public Utilities Strategic Business plan.. Initial software development projects include: revising/enhancing custom data editing tools in ArcMap; system integration between GIS and other business systems; GIS productivity tools development; maintaining existing web services and developing/supporting mobile applications for field use.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Design, construct, and maintain an array of custom GIS applications, tools, spatial data processing scripts, and supporting web services using standard software lifecycle processes.
  • Perform hands-on ArcGIS software development using Microsoft VB/C#.Net (Visual Studio 2010 or above), ESRI ArcObjects, ArcPy, HTML, Javascript, PL/SQL and other programming tools and/or languages.
  • Perform GIS database modeling and optimization using Oracle and Esri's Enterprise Geodatabase.
  • Gather, document and analyze user, business and functional software requirements. Assess technology solutions and recommend options.
  • Design, develop and implement custom GIS software solutions.

They will have strong Esri ArcGIS (Suite 10.X) skills, experience in web development using HTML/Javascript, experience using .Net framework (C#/VB.NET) or a comparable object oriented development language, and excellent communication and organizational skills. Additional Information:
This position initially will be within Seattle Public Utilities and is anticipated to become a part of a centralized, consolidated IT function for the City of Seattle proposed by the Office of the Mayor. The consolidation will:

  • Establish consistent standards and priorities for IT investments
  • Make IT a strategic business partner, enabling the delivery of IT solutions for a safe, affordable, vibrant and innovative city

The proposed effective date of the new organization is April 6, 2016 and is subject to approval by the City Council. It is anticipated that IT consolidation will have minimum impact on this position. At this time changes in scope of work, reporting relationships or physical location are not anticipated when the position becomes part of the consolidated IT department in April 2016.
