Learning acquired through on the job training often by demonstration in a matter of hours
Tasks are highly specific as to object and content
At the lower and middle levels, there is no requirement for forward planning by the postholder beyond the task(s) immediately to hand and a minimal requirement to understand the work being done in related teams. At the higher level, some scheduling of daily tasks may be determined in conjunction with the supervisor, requiring some understanding of office/departmental routines, workflow and deadlines
Courteous and effective communication with other team members is required and the postholder may make or receive simple requests for information from other staff members / Learning acquired through on the job training often by demonstration in a matter of hours, the range of tasks being learned within weeks although supervisory posts will require a further period of familiarisation with workplace routines

Planning is limited to the sequencing of allocated tasks during the working day to ensure work is completed to time and quality standards and to meet changing priorities; there is a requirement for a general understanding of office/ departmental routines, workflow and deadlines

Work is repetitive with action steps defined, task by task / Supervision by person, process or routine is tight
Tasks may have timescales that are hour-to-hour and/or day-to-day

Accountability ie the level of freedom to take action, the nature and impact of the role

Work is subject to direct and detailed instructions
Non-routine enquiries are referred to supervisor / Work is covered by direct and detailed instructions permitting/requiring some re-arrangement of the order in which the work is done

Representative Work Activities include:

Point 1:
Clean office/residences/general areas, Operate/clean basic equipment
Move furniture/equipment
Prepare food for cooking
Point 2:

Maintain flowerbeds/lawns/general areas

Operate/clean basic equipment

Move furniture/equipment

Enter simple data into logs/records

Dealing with transactions of limited cash

Point 3:
Perform reception duties/control access to buildings
Carry out routine security patrol
Sort/deliver post
Serve food/meals
Review/maintain basic logs/records
Operate simple equipment/machinery in a standardised way, maintain as directed
Inform supervisor of stock levels
May assist in demonstrating basic tasks to new staff / May allocate tasks to Level 1a staff within a daily routine established by others
Carry out basic, routine supervision of Level 1a staff, demonstrating and monitoring performance of routine tasks
Act as an escalation point for queries from Level 1a staff; provide guidance
Operate/demonstrate machinery/ equipment in a standardised way e.g. in support of operations, trade or sports activity, maintain as necessary
Carry out routine administrative support/ record keeping/reporting
Follow set procedures to ensure basic resources are available to meet work requirements
