Purpose: / To ensure employees work in a safe manner, that does not endanger them and others while performing refueling vehicle preventative maintenance inspection.
To ensure refueling vehicle is maintained in a safe working condition, and does not endanger the operator or others in daily operations.
Policy Responsibility: / It is the responsibility of the Chief Executive, General Manager, Environmental Health and Safety Director / Manager, Line Supervisor (as applicable)to ensure all provisions of this best practice are enforced and adhered to.
Policy: / All safety, operational, and control systems shall be properly inspected and maintained to ensure the safety of the operator, the aircraft serviced by the equipment, and the equipment itself.
Procedure: / An accurate up-to-date log book shall be used to document these inspection items, and preventive maintenance items in accordance with the recommended procedures.
CONTROL SYSTEM (DAILY)
CHASSIS-SUPPLIED COMPONENTS – I.E. COMPRESSOR, AIR-DRYER, RESERVOIRS, ETC. SEE MANUFACTURER’S RECOMMENDATIONS.
DRAIN RESERVOIRS OF CONDENSATION------DAILY
Drains are provided and control cables marked accordingly.
MISCELLANEOUS PARTS (DAILY)
LADDERS, AIRCRAFT PROTECTION EQUIPMENT----DAILY
Inspect condition of ladders and condition/cleanliness of non-slip material/provisions of step areas. Inspection condition of aircraft protection pads and cleanliness of aircraft contact areas of pads.
CONTROL SYSTEM (WEEKLY)
DEADMAN REEL AND PARTS------WEEKLY
Unwind hose and inspect for cuts and excessive wear and abrasions, lubricate the reel, rewind and properly stow and secure the hose.
PUMPING SYSTEM (WEEKLY)
PUMP, DRIVE ASSEMBLY AND HYDRAULIC SYSTEM--WEEKLY
Check mounting bolts and tighten as required.
Check power take-off case and split drive case oil levels add fluid if necessary.
Check hydraulic lines and connections for leaks.
Check hydraulic fluid level in reservoir and fill as required.
Check reservoir fill screen and clean periodically.
Check drive line parts for excessive play or wear. Grease journal and bearing assemblies and slip joints.
HOSES------WEEKLY
With hoses unwound, check surfaces for wear, cuts or cracks.
CONTROL SYSTEM(MONTHLY)
AIR PURIFIER------MONTHLY
Clean or replace screens and filters.
AIR CONTROL VALVES------MONTHLY
Remove grease and dirt; check the exhaust ports to insure they are not obstructed. See that the operators are free and operable. Tighten the mounting bolts.
ELECTRICAL CONTROLS AND SWITCHES------MONTHLY
Check the conduit connections, making sure they are tight and the mechanical actuators on the switches are in proper working order.
AIR LINES AND CONDUIT------MONTHLY
Check tubing for cuts and abrasions. Tighten all loose fittings and secure any loose connections.

GROUNDING REEL------MONTHLY
Unwind the cable and inspect the insulation for cuts and abrasions. Check cable clamps to insure they are properly attached to the cable. Check cable for continuity.
FIRE EXTINGUISHERS------MONTHLY
Tighten mounting bracket and confirm the extinguisher is fully
charged using gauge and by "hefting" per NFPA-10 manual.
LIGHTING------MONTHLY
Perform functional test of all lights and replace any burned out bulbs or broken lenses.
TANK EQUIPMENT(MONTHLY)
TANK EXTERIOR SHELL AND HEADS------MONTHLY
Visually inspect for impact damage, cracks or leaks.
WELDMENTS------MONTHLY
Visually inspect for cracks or leaks at all weld seams.
WOOD SILLS------MONTHLY
Inspect for splits or rotted areas, and note alignment with tank frame and chassis rails.
TANK TO CHASSIS TIE-DOWN ASSEMBLIES------MONTHLY
Check for worn or broken bolts, realign and tighten unit assemblies, if necessary.
BOLT-ON ATTACHEMENTS------MONTHLY
(Brackets, fenders, ladder, etc)
Check for worn or loose bolts, and check welded assemblies for cracks.
WALKWAY AREA------MONTHLY
Remove debris, dirt and oil accumulation, and check for loose grating and secure any loose conduit or control lines.
MANHOLES------MONTHLY
Inspect gaskets for leaks and lubricate hinges and clamps. Check safety vents for proper operation.
DRAIN TUBES------MONTHLY
Check tubes for obstructions and cracks.
TANK INTERIOR------MONTHLY
Clean sumps and internal valve screens. If necessary, tighten vortex breaker bolts and secure any loose control lines.
JET SENSOR------MONTHLY
Check mounting; clean nozzle, receive and collector can.
PUMPING SYSTEM(MONTHLY)
EMERGENCY SHUT-OFF------MONTHLY
Check/test all emergency shut-off systems for function.
PIPING------MONTHLY
Trace the piping system for leaks, cracks, loose mounting bolts or brackets. Note particularly the flanges and couplings that connect the piping to other components.
HOSE REELS------MONTHLY
Lubricate the chain drive mechanism. Unwind the hose and check the hose stop and reel to hose connection.
NOZZLES------MONTHLY
Inspect the nozzle to aircraft mating surfaces for wear and damage. Clean and inspect the nozzle screens.
PPE / Nitrile gloves, safety glasses, safety shoes and hearing protection (as applicable).
