Surprise Box

Family Life is again this year having the "Surprise Box' table at the Fall Fair. The boxes sell for $2.00 each. We all have items at home that we have been given for gifts, or purchased that we don't have a use for, so why not donate these items to Family Life. They have to be worth $2.00 and they have to be new items. You can bring them to church on Sunday or call me Sharon Smith 834-4102 to arrange for pickup. These items can be anything, they don't have to be Christmas.

Dear Friends in Christ,

Hallowtide (or Hallowmas) is a name given to the festivals of All Saints’ (or All Hallows), held on November 1st, and All Souls’ on November 2nd , together with All Hallows’ Eve on the 31st of October.

All Saints’ Day is the occasion when all Saints known and unknown all over the world are remembered in church. Christians give thanks to God for their lives and their example. On All Souls’ Day the church remembers all who have died.

In many churches on All Souls’ Day the people make a lost of those whom they wish to remember and the names are read out during the prayers. Christians believe that the influence of the lives of the saints is entirely for good. Through their example Christians are able to see something of the power of Christ Himself – they too have been given the power to triumph over danger and evil. As Christ conquered death, so the Saints, by following His example, have given Christians the hope of life after death. These are the ideas exposed in the hymn for All the Saints, the first verse of which says:

“For all Saints who from their labours rest, who thee by faith before the world confessed, Thy name, O Jesus, be for ever blest. Alleluia! Alleluia!
