1Product Description

1.1OpenScape Personal Edition

OpenScape Personal Edition is an IP softphone for installation on a notebook or PC and is the successor to optiClient 130 and optiClient 130 S.

Visually, the new user interface is based on Windows® Office 2007 standards and offers the user a wide range of technical and graphical features that eliminate the need for a desktop phone. The IP softphone is therefore a solution for those who want to dispense with their desktop phone or mobile users who do not have a regular desk and who regard their notebook PC as their office.

OpenScape Personal Edition is available in HFA and SIP versions and is installed without server components. The HFA version is for operation with HiPath 3000, HiPath OpenOffice and HiPath 4000.

The SIP variant is only planned for operation with OpenScape Voice. This version may be expanded to OpenScape Enterprise Edition if the necessary requirements are fulfilled.

OpenScape Personal is currently only approved for operation with Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7.

1.1.1Graphical User Interface

The OpenScape UC Application Personal Client offers a number of different views in the user interface. Users can decide which view they would like to use.

The new, attractive, Personal Edition user interface has undergone a complete redesign compared to the optiClient 130. It offers a number of functions familiar to users from optiClient 130.

For example, a main menu bar can be used exclusively to access all key functions.

The overall view can be designed by activating and deactivating optional windows, so each user has access to an individually configured user interface. This gives the product the widest possible flexibility for adapting to user needs.

The user interface is currently available in the following languages:

  • German
  • English
  • French
  • Italian
  • Brazilian Portuguese
  • Portuguese
  • Chinese (simplified)
  • Spanish

Main Window

Sample view with individual window arrangement:

Main bar:

The main bar can be activated optionally by the user.

Users can anchor the main bar to the upper edge or the screen and operate it without any other windows. It is also possible to automatically hide the main bar via the menu.

A two-line display indicates the client status and provides information at a glance. Double-clicking the display opens a dialing keypad where the destination number can be entered with a click.

Numerous other functions are embedded in the main bar with the result that the client can be operated via the main bar alone.

1.1.2Feature Overview

OpenScape Personal Edition offers the following features:

  • Intuitive user interface based on Windows® Office 2007 standards
  • Individual design scope for the user with functions for selecting display options
  • Optional main bar display with essential functions for minimized screen display
  • Access to online documentation
  • Basic call control (according to SIP/HFA functional scope, e.g. calling, forwarding, consultation, conference, end call, reject call, divert call, etc.)
  • Softphone with a user interface designed like traditional telephony
  • Personal contact list and read access via LDAP to internal company directories (global phonebooks) for search, dial from Outlook or from local contacts
  • Local call journal

1.1.3Video

The SIP variant offers a video telephony feature in conjunction with OpenScape Voice.

This enables point-to-point video connections (H.263 & from V3R2 with H.264).

This softphone is therefore a suitable replacement for traditional desktop telephones, as well as being suited to users requiring a mobile workstation and who use their laptop as their office.

1.4Licensing

OpenScape Personal Edition uses a license concept based on a network interface card which ties the use of a specific, licensed copy to a specific network card.

The license key is created when an OpenScape order is received. Delivery to the person responsible in the local subsidiary consists of an e-mail with the entry code for the license server. This person can forward the e-mail to the customer or to the relevant person in Sales/Service.

This allows access to the license server, and the person accessing it can create and download a license key. All ordered licenses are created in a single license key. Partial creation of ordered licenses is not possible.

2.2Sales Objectives and Target Groups

2.2.1Target Group

OpenScape Personal Edition V3 is aimed at both small and large extensions and is suitable for companies who, for example, wish to move away from traditional desktop telephones or who wish to equip employees with mobile workstations. The system can be deployed in smaller environments, for example, on HiPath 3000 and limited to just a few Personal Edition systems.

The product is available from just a single license.

Expansion is limited by the network requirements or network components of the communications system (e.g. HiPath 4000 or OpenScape Voice).

2.3Marketing Structure

3.1Export Regulations

Certain products in our sales program are subject to the regulations governing export permits required under EU/German/US law [in accordance with the Export List (in German “AL”) and Export Administration Regulations (EAR)].

At the time of an offer/bid or order confirmation you can’t be sure that

  • the required export license will be granted in every case
  • existing export/re-export licenses can be extended to cover extended lead times that can arise as a result of plans or delays.

If, therefore, you are aware, or if you may assume, that what you are supplying to your customer is intended for export or re-export – including indirect export and transactions with dealers – you must ensure that the following reservation is included in your quotation, order confirmation, or contract, as the case may be:

“This offer (this contract/this order confirmation) and the fulfillment of the contract are subject to the proviso that the requisite export licenses are issued and that this is not prevented by other impediments arising due to German or other export regulations.”
