Around two years ago, Gerstner K.u.K. Hofzuckerbäcker opened a shop in the magnificent Palais Todesco and a bar with living room atmosphere on the first floor. The world of pleasure of Wein & Co on Jasomirgottstrasse, redesigned by the Viennese team of architects BEHF in 2016, also has a restaurant and a tasting corner to accompany its flagship store. A spectacular fresco shows set pieces by old masters of the Baroque and Renaissance periods with nymphs, satires and the god Bacchus. Viennese cuisine is the culinary choice here.

The premises of the former restaurant "Das Engel" now houses the Marktlücke. Located near the Karmelitermarkt, the Marktlücke offers warming Austrian cuisine in the winter and Mediterranean dishes with lots of fish in the summer, all to a very high standard.

The former home of Kussmaul has belonged to "Das Spittelberg" since the end of 2016. Here, head chef Harald Brunner serves a particularly exciting interpretation of Viennese cuisine with Asian accents. For example, there's dim sum with sweetbread and crayfish. At the heart of the restaurant with the modern ambience is a rotisserie, where meat is cooked in large pieces - including the "irresistible duck".

The food and drink establishment Ludwig & Adele am Markt has moved into the former market office on Yppenplatz. A market breakfast is served on Fridays and Saturdays; otherwise, everything culinary revolves around focaccia in the restaurant modernized with lots of glass and wood. The beer comes from the Brauwerk, the creative brewery of Ottakringer.

A nice market restaurant at the lively Brunnenmarkt/Yppenmarkt with a good breakfast and specialties from around the world. A tip is the roof terrace, the only one on top of a market booth, with a view of the colorful hustle and bustle of the market as well as cool music.

Jamie Oliver at Vienna International Airport

The British star chef Jamie Oliver is opening three of his internationally successful catering businesses at Vienna International Airport. An area of more than 800 m² on level 1 of Terminal 3 will be home to "Jamie's Deli", "Jamie's Italian" and a freestanding bar. "Jamie's Deli" will open its doors in early 2017. Implementation will take place in stages until the middle of 2018. Vienna International Airport will therefore be the first location in Austria of the internationally renowned dining outlets of Jamie Oliver.

In autumn 2017, another branch of "Jamie's Italian" will open in Vienna city center. The planned location is Dr.-Karl-Lueger-Platz 5.

News from Vienna on the bistronomy trend

Bistronomy is the name of the latest culinary trend. First-class, award-winning cuisine is served in a relaxed ambience without the fuss and frills of the gourmet temple. While in other countries the bistronomy trend is playing out in pubs and bistros, in Vienna it's in the inns and traditional 'beisl', of course.

The restaurant of Oliver Lucas, born in London and former sous-chef at the Steirereck restaurant, is located in the former Gasthaus Weidinger. The inn's typical flair can still be sensed to this day: The parlor's wooden ceiling and paneling have been retained and combined with a great tile floor and light, airy furniture. The food is of high quality, very creative, but fairly priced.
