Name Poems

  1. Open PowerPoint and a “Blank Presentation.”
  2. Choose a blank slide.
  3. Click the third icon at the bottom left of the screen, which is “Slide
    View”.
  4. Click “File” then “Page Setup”… click “Portrait” and “OK.”
  5. Put the 3 ½” Floppy A in the A: drive that has your digital picture on
    it.
  6. Click “Insert” – “Picture” – “From a File.”
  7. Click the down pointing arrow button and locate the 3 ½” Floppy Drive
    and open it.
  8. Double click your digital picture.
  9. Click in the middle of the digital picture to get your handlebars.

10.Resize the picture by clicking and dragging the handlebars.

11. Place the digital picture at the top of the page.

12. Insert Word Art by clicking on the icon on the Draw toolbar. (If your Draw
toolbar is missing click “View” – “Toolbars” – then click to put a checkmark in
front “Draw.”)

13. Click the Vertical Word Art style that you want and click “OK.”

14. Type your name and click “OK.” Resize it, stretch it out and move it to the left
side of the page.

15. Click “Insert” – “Text Box” – then click and drag a box where you want your
description to be. Type the line of the name poem for that letter of your name.

16. Once you have the text, you can format it any way you want by selecting it and
changing the size, color, font, etc.

17. Repeat steps 15 and 16, until you have all the letters of your name in the poem.

18. Save As…. and Print.

HINTS

To move a Text box – click on the striped line that surrounds the text box and then use your arrow keys or click and drag the box into position with your mouse.

To move Word Art – click in the middle until you see a four-headed arrow and then drag it into position.

To fill a Text box you can click on it to get handlebars around it… then click the Fill Color icon (Paint Can) on the Draw toolbar and chose a color… just make sure your text is a color that will show up on this fill.

You can crop your digital picture by clicking on the “Crop” tool on the Picture Toolbar and then clicking and dragging over a handlebar on the digital picture.
