Falls in Ontario –Data Highlights

In 2010, falls in Ontario (all ages) led to:

  • 2,190 deaths
  • 41,702 hospital admissions
  • 400,591 emergency visits
  • $2.8 million in costs to the economy

Senior Falls in Ontario –Data Highlights

  • There were over 100,00 emergency department (ED) visits for senior falls in Ontario in 2013, or 309 ED visits per day.
  • Over 20,000 Ontario seniors were admitted to hospital after a fall in 2013. That translates to 63 Ontario seniors hospitalized each day.
  • Within the senior population, adults 85 and older have the highest emergency visit and hospitalization rates for falls (2013).
