ONTARIO ADVENTURE ROWING ASSOCIATION (OAR)

Benefits of Individual Membership

Touring in Ontario is promoted through the Ontario Adventure Rowing Association (OAR), an Association registered with RowOntario and Rowing Canada Aviron. OAR Touring manages the touring boats, Mobile Touring Centres, and tour schedule. Each year we will offer a full slate of tours, marathons, and other distance rowing events on various scenic waterways of Ontario.

Rowers who are not members of member Clubs have the opportunity of joining the Association as individuals. Individual members have the right to participate in a full range of tours, to receive information about overseas tours, and to participate in Association business. All individual members are registered with Row Ontario and Rowing Canada.

A typical year would have 10-12 tours and marathons such as the following:

  • Niagara Banana Belt tour -- Don RC
  • Lake Scugog Marathon -- Durham RC
  • Rideau Lakes –ONEC
  • Lake Conestoga tour – Guelph RC
  • Black Fly -- Sudbury RC
  • Kempenfelt Bay – Barrie RC
  • Trent Lift Lock tour -- Peterborough RC
  • Muskoka weekend – Hanlan BC / Don RC
  • Toronto Islands -- Hanlan BC
  • Georgian Bay -- Don RC
  • Upper Ottawa River Tour -- ONEC
  • Coastal Boat Regatta, Lake Ontario – Hanlan BC
  • Canadian Sculling Marathon (Ottawa River) -- ONEC
  • Gourmet on the Grand River -- HGRRC
  • Algonquin/Lower Madawaska -- ONEC
  • Icicle Chase (Otonabee River) – Quinte RC

Every year we have several endurancemarathon events with rowing distances from 21 km to 42 km. We also promote coastal rowing, including regattas and tours.

In addition members have access to international touring. Some years ago a group ofOAR members participated in the Rallye Canal du Midi in France. Our members attend FISA World Tours held annually in various countries. In 2012, in conjunction, with the Sudbury Rowing Club, we hosted a FISA World Tour in the Sudbury-West Arm-French River area. In 2015 OAR members participated in a Florida winter tour anda German fall tour, both sponsored by OAR. In 2017 we rowed the entire Rideau Canal, including ‘locking through’ most of the locks.

Touring is beneficial to build your endurance and your cardio-vascular system. Moreover rowing tours are also social and environmental, going through some of the most beautiful waterways of Ontario.
