Members and Guests of the Ancient Mariners Sailing Society:

Commodore Pat Johnson invites you to participate in the 31st Ancient Mariners Sailing Society’s Annual Yesteryear Regatta to be sailed on San Diego Bay Saturday May 14, 2005.

This race is open to any wooden (or steel) sailing boat of classic design (based on a design before 1960). Membership in the Ancient Mariners Sailing Society is not required.

The Yesteryear Regatta, first called the Spring Regatta, was organized by local classic boat enthusiasts Bill Clark, Doug Smith, and Bob Spriggs in 1975. These three individuals founded the Ancient Mariners Sailing Society in 1976 to promote the enjoyment of classic boats. In the early years as many as 80 boats participated. Last year, the famous yacht designer, Olin Stephens of Sparkman & Stephens came out to race with us and signed his books at the awards party after the race. We also had some world class boats race last year, notably ORIENT an S&S Sloop. This year we hope to have Dennis Conner’s COTTON BLOSSOM a 1925 Q Class sloop racing in the fleet. Please come join us for a fun day of classic racing on San Diego Bay! Fiddlers Green Restaurant will be hosting the post race celebration and awards presentation.

Each entry will receive a participation trophy. Trophies will be awarded to the first three boats on corrected time in each of the following classes: Classic Racing A, Classic Racing B, Sloops & Cutters, Split Rigs & Gaffers, and Small Boats (shorter course). In addition, the following long standing Yesteryear Regatta Perpetual Trophies will be on display at the awards presentation:

Herreshoff Trophy: First Herreshoff Yacht to finish (corrected time)

Reliance Trophy: Fastest Elapsed Time
