Two-Day Event

November 18 - 19, 2002
WashingtonDC
Gateway Marriott in CrystalCity

If you are interested in:

  • Use of UML as a modeling language
  • How UML is being applied to systems engineering
  • The requirements and roadmap for extending UML from software to systems engineering
  • Tool vendor support for UML

You should participate in thus event

A joint initiative between INCOSE and the OMG was established in July 2001 to evolve UML for Systems Engineering. Held in conjunction with the OMG Technical Meeting, this two-day event will be held November 18 - 19, 2002 in WashingtonDC at the Gateway Marriott in CrystalCity. This event includes a first hand look at how industry is beginning to extend UML to systems engineering, and the steps the OMG is taking to evolve the standard to address systems engineering modeling needs. Refer to the OMG SE DSIG site at for additional information.

The Unified Modeling Language™ (UML™) has become a standard modeling language amongst the software community, and is believed to be sufficiently robust to support extensions to address the needs of systems engineering. In addition, UML has an extensive supporting infrastructure through OMG™, which includes broad industry representation, and a defined process and infrastructure for extending the modeling language. A standard modeling language for systems engineering to specify, design, and verify complex systems, is intended to enhance systems quality, improve the ability to exchange systems engineering information amongst tools, and help bridge the semantic gap between systems, software, and other engineering disciplines. Topics listed below, and detailed Agenda can be found at:

Monday, November 18 from 9:00 – 5:00

  • UML tutorial and summary of proposed updates for UML V2.0 (based on U2P submission)
  • Tool vendor booths
  • Monday evening reception

Tuesday, November 19 from 9:00 – 5:00

  • How systems engineering fits into the OMG
  • Overview of the OMG effort to extend UML to Systems Engineering
  • Approaches for applying UML to Systems Engineering
  • Requirements and Needs for UML to fully support Systems Engineering
  • Assessment of how UML V2.0 is addressing the Systems Engineering needs
  • Panel Discussion on UML for Systems Engineering

PANEL MEMBERS INCLUDE:Michael Ackroyd (Raytheon), Murray Cantor (Rational), Bruce Douglass (ILogix), Cris Kobryn (Telelogic), Alan Moore (Artisan), Dave Oliver, Andrew Winkler (Lockheed Martin)
