OMG! IMHO Scripting Template

Use this handout to plan your OMG! IMHO episode. Remember that you may need to tailor the prompts on the scripting template a bit to fit the question that you and your partner have decided to answer. Also, remember to keep your identities private by using a fun fake name like Darth Tater or Johnny Bignose.

Student 1 Says: / Welcome to OMG! IMHO, a podcast about reading being created by some seriously motivated students living in Cyberspace. My name is ______and I’m joined by my digital friend ______.
Student 2 Says: / Today, we’ll be talking about the novel ______by ______. In this novel:
Recording Tip: / (Here, you will include a SHORT—no more than 3 sentence—summary of the novel that you are talking about. This is important because it will give listeners who haven’t read your novel a bit of background for understanding your debate.)
Student 1 Says: / While this whole novel is pretty interesting, we’ll be debating the following question:
Recording Tip: / (Here, you will include the specific reading question that you and your partner have chosen to debate in this episode. You can use one of the questions suggested by your teacher or draft your own. Remember that your question has to be something debatable—and that each student should argue a different side of the story.)
Student 1 Says: / This is a really interesting question, don’t you think? In my honest opinion:
Recording Tip: / (Here, one student will be giving his/her perspective on the reading question that you’ve chosen to tackle in your OMG! IMHO episode. It is REALLY IMPORTANT that you include a good bit of detail here that explains your point of view. This section of your recording should be AT LEAST 4 sentences long. Anything shorter will make it hard for listeners to agree OR disagree with you.)
Student 2 Says: / You make some really good points, ______. But in my honest opinion:
Recording Tip: / (Here, the second student will be giving a DIFFERENT perspective on the reading question that you’ve chosen to tackle in your OMG! IMHO episode. It is REALLY IMPORTANT that this student argues a DIFFERENT side of the story with AT LEAST 4 sentences. That way, listeners will have a chance to decide which of the two arguments they agree with.)
Student 1 Says: / So who do you agree with? Do you think that:
Recording Tip: / (Here, the first student gives a ONE SENTENCE summary of his/her answer to the focus question that you are wrestling with in this OMG! IMHO episode.)
