Dear Eighth Grade Parent,

As you may already be aware, students will have the choice to exempt the physical education (PE) graduation requirement if they complete two full seasons of interscholastic athletics (including cheerleading) or marching band (including drill team) at Olmsted Falls High School. Students who choose this option willnot receive academic credit for the exemption, but instead they will have the opportunity to add an elective in place of the PE requirement.

In order to complete the exemption, a parent/guardian signature and student signature must be on file in the high school guidance office. If your student chooses to exempt the PE requirement, please sign below and return to the Olmsted Falls High School Guidance Office by March 8, 2013.

All freshmen have been scheduled into PE for the 2013-2014 school year. The course will not be removed until a signed exemption form is returned or summer school PE is completed. If the signed form is not returned or summer school PE is not completed, we will assume your student will complete the PE requirement during the school year.

When your student completes a schedule in March they will need to indicate on their scheduling sheets whether they plan on completing the PE requirement during the school year, during the summer, or through the exemption. If they indicated they would complete the course during the summer or through the exemption, another elective was added in place of PE. However, as previously mentioned, the PE course will stay on your student’s schedule until the exemption form is returned or summer school PE is completed.

The signatures below verify the student plans on completing two full seasons of interscholastic athletics (including cheerleading) or marching band (including drill team) at Olmsted Falls High School prior to their expected graduation date. The signatures below also verify that if a student does not complete the two full seasons it will be the student’s and parent’s responsibility to ensure the PE requirement (.5 credits) is completed prior to graduation.
