CLIFFORD

NEIGHBOURHOOD PROFORMA

The proforma is intended to capture information at a sub-ward level on the type and extent of deprivation in each of the priority regeneration neighbourhoods. These neighbourhoods were originally identified using local deprivation indices produced in 1998 and 2000.

INDEX OF LOCAL DEPRIVATION (ILD) 1998

Although this index was superseded by the 2000 Index of Multiple Deprivation it provides evidence of deprivation at sub-ward level not captured by the latter. Each ward was scored against 6 key criteria (unemployment, crowded households, lack of amenities, low earnings, car ownership and 17 year olds in full-time education) and the overall score averaged. Under the 1998 Index, Clifford ward included xx enumeration district in the worst 5% nationally, xx in the worst 10% and xx in the worst 20%.

INDEX OF MULTIPLE DEPRIVATION (IMD) 2000

The DETR Index of Multiple Deprivation recorded deprivation at ward level across the UK using various criteria under 6 separate domains. The position for Clifford ward was as follows:

Overall Rank / % UK / Income Rank / % UK / Emp. Rank / % UK / Health Rank / % UK / Education Rank / % UK / Housing
Rank / % UK
297 / 4 / 261 / 4 / 284 / 4 / 616 / 8 / 817 / 10 / 445 / 6

Clifford's overall rank placed it among the 4% most deprived wards in the UK.

A revised Index of Deprivation will be published in 2004 containing data relating to seven different domains. Figures will be recorded at both a ward level and under a new definition of super output area. This data will be correlated with additional anecdotal and research-based data pertaining to each of Trafford’s 6 priority regeneration neighbourhoods.
