2018THIRDS COACHING OPPORUNITY

Old Geelong FC is a club with over 60 years history and is strongly associated and supported by APS schools Geelong Grammar and The Geelong College. The ambition of its players and supporters is that the club reach the upper echelons of the VAFA in the near term. The club currently competes in Premier C of the VAFA.

The club is centrally located at Como Park, South Yarra, has an experienced committee, is financially sound and boasts sound facilities including recently renovated club rooms.

The club’s playing list is comprised of a group of young and talented players that have significant potential as demonstrated by a Senior premiership in 2016 and Reserves finals appearance in 2017. With a focus on further recruitment and player development, the Club is committed to continuing to climb up the sections within the VAFA competition.

Coaching Position

Due to the retirement of the incumbent coach, theOld Geelong Football Club is seeking applications for the position of THIRDS COACH in 2018. Successful applicants will need to demonstrate:

  • A strong desire to teach and develop players
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Positive attitude, organised and well prepared
  • Ability to work with other coaches to implement club-wide game plan

Section / Description
Title: / Thirds Coach of the Old Geelong Football Club (“OGs”) - VAFA – Premier C
Reports to: / The Old Geelong Football Club Committee
Division: / Football Department
Scope of the Position: / The Thirds Coach is responsible for implementing the Club’s Football Strategy, focusing on the development of younger players transitioning from the U19s into senior football.

The below criterion outlines what the OGFC is looking for in their search for a 2018 Reserves Coach:

Selection Criterion / Description
Personal Qualities /
  1. Well organised.
  2. Strong leadership and excellent communication skills.
  3. Positive attitude and team oriented.

Technical Coaching /
  1. Co-ordination of training (6pm-8pm) on Tuesdays and Thursdays in consultation with Senior Coaching panel. This can involve responsibility for 80+ players
  2. Implement club wide game plan that can win Premierships in Premier Grades and assist the development of our players into Reserves and Senior footballers.

Relationship Management /
  1. Positive working relationships with all Players, Coaches and the Committee.
  2. Ability to provide player feedback through setting clearly defined goals.
  3. Desire to nurture young and emerging talent, working with U19 program.

Commercial Focus /
  1. Promote the Club and our brand by being a role model and ambassador.
  2. Assistance with player attraction and retention.

Coaching Experience /
  1. Understanding of the VAFA competition preferred.
  2. Minimum of Level One AFL coaching accreditation or willingness to obtain.
