Minutes of Meeting, 7 March 2012

The meeting was held at the Forney Transportation Museum, 4303 Brighton Blvd, Denver Colorado.

The meeting was called to order by the president, Dick Thompson, at 7:29 pm, which was one minute early. Officers present were Dick Thompson, president; Gary Canady, 1st vice president; Dick Fritz, secretary; and Tom Kay, treasurer. 41 member clubs and one guest club were represented.

Dick Adams Tribute: Dick Thompson noted that Dick Adams died of heart surgery complications on February 10th and his memorial service was attended by many CCCC members. Dick was a remarkable individual who volunteered at Rose Hospital, Cherry Creek Eye Clinic, the American Heart Association, as well as enthusiastically working on CCCC and Thunderbird Club events. He was a very outgoing individual and we will miss his enthusiasm. His family made commemorative bracelets stating “Stay Silly”, which fits his outlook on life. Members at the meeting were encouraged to pick up one of the bracelets and make a donation which will go to the Heart Fund. CCCC intends to have a Dick Adams team on the 5K Heart Walk (start: Denver Performing Arts Complex) on June 2nd.

Legislative issues: Leo Boyle reported on the status of bills in the legislature that we are following:

HB 12-1051 and HB 12-1098 (changing procedures with Salvage Titles) have been killed.

HB 12-1291 (Late fees for collector vehicles) has been withdrawn as other measures in the CRS will accomplish the same goal.

HB 12-1103 (exclude Weld & Larimer counties from emission testing) failing due to opposition from Dept. of Health & Environment.

HB 12-1014 (Reduce registration late fees) failing due to Fiscal Note (loss of revenue to state).

SB 12-126 (Extend new car emission test exemption to 8 years) killed.

SB 12-095 (Requirements for transfer of titles) still alive with amendments.

The polite term for killing a bill is that it is “postponed indefinitely”.

Leo credited Harold Naber and John Mack for meeting with legislators, attending hearings, and working on compromises to protect collector car interests.

Dick Thompson complimented the MOPAR club for inviting Rep.Vaad to attend their meeting and discuss issues. Meetings with legislators can produce positive results, and individuals are encouraged to get to know representatives and senators and their staff. Contact information is available at county clerk offices.

Minutes of the February 1st meeting were approved as presented.

Swap Meet in conjunction with the Front Range Airport Vintage Aircraft and Car Show (August 18): Flyers promoting vendors and buyers have been prepared. We will have forms in April for club volunteers to work the event. Workers will be needed for registration, traffic and parking, and clean up. As usual, clubs that provide workers will share in the profits on the event.

Cruises (Havana, June 16, and Colfax, September 15): Dick Thompson reminded everyone that he still needs volunteers to help organize and work the cruises, first of all the Cruizin’ Havana event. Clubs that work will have a free advertisement in the program. The Havana Business Improvement District (BID) provides great support to CCCC and the DARE organization. Please remember to support the sponsors listed in the program.

Collector Vehicle statutes brochure: Harold Naber reported that the draft of the brochure providing guidance on the laws regarding collector vehicles in Colorado has been given to Maren Rubino (Colorado Dept. of Revenue vehicle licenses and registration) for review and it should be available shortly.

Phone Tree: Urgent messages for CCCC will be sent by email where possible. A phone tree system will be used to disseminate information to those without a connection to the internet.

Colfax Marathon (May 20th): Organizers of the Denver Marathon have requested that car clubs provide vehicles to display at featured locations along the route. Great publicity and free food available. If you can help, call Dick Thompson (303-699-4819) or CCCC at 303-752-6755.

Demographic Info: As a follow on to the Presidents Round Table discussions, we would like to get more information about the number and vintage of vehicles owned by club members.
