ATTENDANCE POLICYFOR ONLINE COURSES:
A primarycomponent ofOSUIT's Mission is: “to prepareand sustain a diverse student bodyas competitivemembers ofa world-classworkforce”.Regular andconsistent attendancenot onlyaids in academicsuccess, dependable attendanceis arequirement in today's real-world employment;therefore, regularand consistent attendanceis arequirement in all OSUIT courses.
Definition:
Absent:Failingtoactivelyparticipatein online coursework during astandard week
timeframefor a givencourse.
A. Students must demonstrate attendancethroughactiveparticipationin the course at least once everyseven days. Simplylogginginto the coursedoes not constitute active participation.
B. Activeparticipation is defined as the completion of requiredactivities suchas:
1. Completion ofonlinequizzes or exams
2. Submission of assignments
3. Participation threaded discussions, or
4.Involvement in discussion question as determined bythe instructorand indicated in the coursesyllabus.
C. Calculations forweeklyto percentageratios
1. Missing1 of15 weeks =6.67%
2. Missing2 of15 weeks =13.33%
3. Missing3 of15 weeks =20%
4. Missing1 of 7.5weeks =13.33%

Procedures:
Early Intervention:
A. Anystudent who misses10%of an individual course(orearlier at facultydiscretion) duringaregular fifteen-week semester, ortheequivalent portion oftime in ashorter session, willhavetheirname submitted bythat courseinstructor to theOSUIT Early Alert System for retention intervention.
B. At the point theEarlyAlert is issued, thestudent mustmeet with their assigned facultyadvisor ordesignated faculty/staff member within seven (7)academic calendar days for counselingon how to improvetheir attendance andacademic success.
ExcessiveAbsences:
A. TheUniversityreserves theright to administrativelywithdraw anystudent from an individual coursewho misses 20%of that course,whether excused or unexcused, and, in theopinion ofthe instructor, thestudent does not haveareasonable opportunityto be successful in the course.

The chapter resourcesinclude multiple sections to assist inyour learning,including: 1)
introduction, 2) chapter review, and 3)varied other sections. Theintroduction provides the chaptersummaryandlearningobjectives. Theothersections cover thechapter material including reading, short videosand audioreadings of terms. There is also the option to havethe chapter material read aloud toyou, if preferred. There arepractice activities at the end ofthe chapter material to assist in reviewingthematerial.
PracticeActivities
There arevarious practice activities to assistyou in learningthe chaptermaterial. These
activities include the abbreviations sections, flashcards, andchapter review. The abbreviation section reviews the abbreviations associated with the chaptercontent. The flashcardscan be customized if preferred and usedonlineor printed. Thechapterreview has alink to StudyWare Activitieswhich includeschapterslidepresentations, practice quizzes, word puzzles, games, imagelabeling, and animations. These activities haveno grade associated with them. These activities will assistyou immenselyin learningthe information forthe weekand successfullycompletingthegraded activities. Thereis a varietyof choices so utilizethe activities that fityour learningpreferences. You arenot required to complete allthe practiceactivities, butcan utilizethese activities as often as you desire. You areencouraged to participatein these activities prior to completingthe graded assignments.

Homework is a matching exerciseof word parts and word buildingwith two attempts to
answercorrectly.If theactivityis stopped, the activityis resumed whereitwasstopped previously. This activityscoreis calculated inyour participation points.

Learning Labconsistsof aPre-Assessment, ChalkTalk and PostAssessment.ThePost
Assessment is the scoreused foryour participationpoints. ThePre-Assessment and Chalk Talkscores areforyour information only. This activitymust be submitted in one settingoryou willberequired to restart theactivitythe next time. Makesureto submit eachactivityin order to record theactivitygrade.
Weekly Quizzes
Weeklyquizzes arelocated on D2Landare available from the first dayof class.Each
quizis worth 100 points.You will be allotted120 minutes for each 75 question quiz. You must complete and submit the quiz in the allotted time. The quiz will be graded immediately, however the instructor must hand grade any completion questions on the exam; therefore, your grade may change reflecting a higher score. Grades will be posted within 7 business days of the due date.
LateGraded Activities
The expectation is that all quizzes, homework andlearninglab activitiesareopen from
thefirst dayof thecourse.Ifyou failto completeoneof thesegradedactivities in the allotted time therewillbeno chancefor amake-up assignment andyouwillreceivea zero.It is advised thatyounot waituntil thelast daytocomplete anassignment sincethe website, as anywebsite,can beunpredictable. Although discussion forum and quizzes must be completed on time, you may work ahead if desired. Again, all work is expected to be complete by the due date posted in the course schedule. Late work is not accepted. Please contact me in a timely manner via email or phone if you have any questions or problems. If you have issues such as technical problems or an emergency that will not allow you to complete your assignments on time please contact me prior to the due date. It is at the instructor’s discretion to allow extra time to complete assignments due to unforeseen circumstances. If you have technical difficulties, the instructor may request you to provide a screen shot of your issue and send this copy via email prior to the assignment due date.
Participation Points
Theparticipation points for the coursewillbe calculated from thetwograded sections on
MindTap: Homework andLearning Lab.Homework andLearning Labare each worth up to 10 points weeklyfor apossible 20 points total. For instance, ascoreof 70%on the Homework and 85%on theLearning Lab would resultin participation points calculated as such:
70/10 = 7and 85/10 =8.57 +8.5 =15.5 Participation points forthe week=15.5
Communication:
The instructor will communicate on a weekly basis via the News Forum in D2L to inform students when grades are updated including weekly exams and participation points. The Course Question Forum is to be used for questions regarding the course. Remember this is a public forum. Be professional and courteous of others.
