Ohio Union Council Meeting

October 7, 2010

The meeting was called to order by Ashley Sinram who then gave an overview of the Ohio Union Council.

Director’s Report: Tracy Stuck

-  The facility has been very busy. The Ballroom is booked everyday in October with the exception of one day.

-  BARTHA Tech will be running technology in the ballroom, performance hall and conference theater.

-  An AV Task Force has been formed and meets weekly.

-  Catering is exceeding expectations and extra staff has been added.

-  Sold over 2000 pancakes in Sloopy’s and used 16,000 gallons of coca-cola products in the Union Market. To date, over 5000 events in the building.

-  Dining Task Force created over the summer to provide feedback to Campus Dining Services

-  Sloopy’s will close at 2AM on Sunday – Wednesday and at 4AM on Thursday – Saturday.

-  Ethnic food meeting upcoming (re: outside catering) – would like feedback on exemptions, so please email any feedback to Ashley or Tracy.

Policy Review – Ashley Sinram and Eve Esch

-  Amendments – leftover food policy changes. Motion by Clark Siddle to accept changes to the food policy, seconded by Bryan Ashton, vote taken, motion carried.

-  Building hours policy – discussion of revisions. Motion by Clark Siddle to accept revisions, seconded by Bryan Ashton, vote taken, motion carried.

-  Second Reads – Staff locker policy approved; fire pit usage approved.

Subcommittees:

-  Election of subcommittee chairs

Budget and Finance – Bryan Ashton nominated and approved.

Development – Becki Crowell nominated and approved.

Policy – Krystin Bachman nominated and approved

Events – Samantha Ullum returning Chair.

OUAB Update – Stephen Humphries and Joel Pettigrew

-  Reviewed successful events (Weezer)

-  Several events are sold out (John Legend, Aziz)

-  160 general members in OUAB and applications for new members are due tomorrow. Would like to continue improving diversity.

-  Discussed conflicts they are having with the Lantern regarding revealing talent fees.

-  Discussed and reviewed upcoming events

-  Graduate/Professional events have been well attended.

Announcements:

-  Homecoming 10/18-10/23 – parade scheduled for 10/22 at 5pm.

-  Ohio Union Alumni Society recognized, Jenn Geller receiving award

-  Ohio Union LEED certification

-  Eight presentations accepted at ACUI. President Gee will be a speaker and we are looking into Megabus as a mode of transportation for our staff

-  Over 3300 registered for Parent and Family Weekend
