Ohio’s Clean Diesel School Bus Fund

Awarded Grants, May, 2007

During the spring, 2007 grant cycle, Ohio EPA awarded the following eight grants to school districts, for a total of $483,818.32. These grants will install pollution control technology on 94 buses, and achieve an estimated annual emission reduction of 197 pounds of particulates, 1,788.7 pounds of carbon monoxide, and 743.1 pounds of hydrocarbons.

Berea City Schools, Cuyahoga County, $87,178.32 to retrofit 12 buses with catalyzed diesel particulate filters, #B2007S-008. The district provided an in-kind match of $6,813.00. Contact: Jeffrey A. Grosse, or (440) 243-6012.

Vermilion Local Schools, Erie County (for routes in Lorain County), $9,700.00 to retrofit 10 buses with diesel oxidation catalysts, #B2007S-009. The district provided an in-kind match of $6,482, to retrofit two additional buses. Contact: Amy L. Hendricks, or (440) 967-5721.

Buckeye Local Schools, Ashtabula County, $19,749.00 to retrofit 11 buses with diesel oxidation catalysts and closed crankcase filtration systems, #B2007S-010. The district provided an in-kind match of $1,795.00 to retrofit an additional bus. Contact: Richard Kreisher, or (440) 998-2740.

Elyria City Schools, Lorain County, $94,397.00 to retrofit 12 buses with diesel oxidation catalysts and 6 buses with catalyzed diesel particulate filters, #B2007S-013. The district provided an in-kind match of $22,349.00. Contact: Rich Nielson, or (440) 284.8206.

Vandalia-Butler City Schools, Montgomery County, $94,024.00 to retrofit seven buses with catalyzed continuously regenerating technology, #B2007S-014. The district provided an in-kind match of $13,432 to retrofit an additional bus. Contact: Jean Taylor, or (937) 415-6691.

Washington Court House City Schools, Fayette County, $65,950 to retrofit eight buses with diesel particulate filters, #B2007S-015. The district provided an in-kind match of $3,344. Contact: Regina Williams, or (740) 335-6620 ext. 11.

Cleveland Municipal Schools, Cuyahoga County, $99,920 to retrofit 16 buses with diesel particulate filters, #B2007S-016. The district has retrofitted an additional 175 buses with funds from federal grants and other sources. Contact: Michael Bower, or (216) 441-8235.

Painesville City Local Schools, Lake County, $12,900 to retrofit 12 buses with diesel oxidation catalysts, #B2007S-017. The district provided an in-kind match of $12,900.00. Contact: Virl Stalnaker, or (440) 392-5571.

Since this grant program began in 2006, Ohio EPA has awarded $1.1 million to install pollution control equipment on 386 school buses statewide, and remove more than five tons of pollutants from the air. The next grant application deadline will be September 1, 2007, subject to legislative continuation of the program.
