Mrs. Georgia-America

*Official Preliminaries to the nationally televised Mrs. America Pageant*

Dear 2017 Mrs. Georgia-America Contestant:

The excitement is just beginning as we prepare for the 2017 Mrs. Georgia Pageant leading directly to the one and only Mrs. America Pageant, which is this country’s most prestigious and family-oriented pageant. My husband, Carl, and I have been state directors for the Mrs. Minnesota Pageant since 1990 (and Mrs. Georgia Pageant since 2002), and we are thrilled to include Iowa, Wisconsin, and Michigan into our pageant “family” for the eighth year in a row.

This year’s pageant will commence on Saturday, June 10, 2017 with the personal interviews (NOTE: this event is for contestants ONLY) to be held at the DoubleTree, Roswell, GA. The final competition will be held at the DoubleTreein Roswell on the evening of Sunday, June11, 2017, 6pm. OnicaBlaize (Mrs. Georgia 2016)will be on hand to crown her successor.

Please note all of the paperwork enclosed and adhere to the schedule/deadlines to attend the activities for the contestants (see enclosed flyers and events on the schedule). These events are a fantastic way to meet your fellow contestants, make new friendships, and create lasting memories of your pageant experience. We encourage you to attend, however, they are entirely optional and your attendance has absolutely no bearing on the outcome of the pageant.

We have tried to answer all of your questions in this packet of information. Please read every page carefully and keep this in a safe place, as you will need to refer to it in the months ahead. If you still have any questions, please feel free to email us or call me at (612) 867-4974. We look forward to having you as a contestant!

Sincerely,

Faith and Carl Schway

PERSONAL INTERVIEW before the panel of judges. There are usually 5 to 6 judges. Each contestant can expect to be asked questions about herself (family, career if any, activities, interests). You need not have children to become Mrs. Georgia. In addition, if you have been divorced previously, this is not a problem.

PHYSICAL FITNESS as assessed in one-piece or two-piece, one-colored swimsuits.

EVENING GOWN (how the contestant carries herself in the gown).

ON-STAGE QUESTION.

SPECIAL AWARDS

Several awards will be given to the contestants during the pageant, including:

  • Photogenic Award (voted upon by the judges)

PAGEANT TICKETS

All seats are general admission. Tickets will be sold to contestants by us with a 10% discount for orders of 10 or more. Those having pre-ordered tickets may enter the auditorium first. Tickets were $35 each in past years and shall remain close to that price. Therefore, it is recommended that you purchase your tickets as soon as they go on sale. Everyone, including children, will require a ticket. The husbands of contestants do not need tickets. They will have complimentary seating in a special area reserved for HUSBANDS ONLY.

INFORMATION REGARDING TICKET SALE DATE SHALL BE

FORTHCOMING. Get your tickets early! We expect the theater to be sold out completely!

PAGEANT PHOTOS

We anticipate that our pageant photographer will be taking photos of each contestant in her evening gown and swimwear. In addition, a group shot of all of the contestants will be taken. This is a nice way to remember this special event. Information on how to order these photos will be forthcoming. This is optional.

* EVENING GOWN COMPETITION

Full-length evening gown of your choice.

* SWIMSUIT COMPETITION

One-piece OR two-piece, solid colored swimsuit of your choice with heels. (one color ONLY—no prints and no piping in another color allowed). A small amount of rhinestoning is acceptable. We recommend a 2-5” clear or taupe heel. This type of shoe can be found at local pageant stores. Minimal buttons are okay. Mrs. Georgia will be required to wear a swimsuit at the national pageant. The national pageant provides the swimsuit (which is always selected in good taste) and shows married women in a positive manner.

*COCKTAIL DRESS FOR THE OPENING NUMBER

A black cocktail dress (may have silver trim- i.e. sequins, rhinestones, sparkles, etc.) and silver accessories (i.e. earrings, necklace, bracelet, etc.) for the opening number. No silver dresses will be allowed. The length/hemline may be uneven but should be to the knee or a few inches shorter. Skin-colored nylons and clear or pageant heels must be worn.

*PERSONAL INTERVIEW

For the interview with the judges, you will need a dress or suit (usually of the dressy order). A dress or suit with a little glitter on it is perfectly acceptable and commonly seen in this pageant. No pants will be allowed.

Husbands are expected to escort their wives during the Evening Gown segment. They must wear black tuxedos (no tails) or black suits, black cummerbunds, black bow ties, black shoes, and white tuxedo shirts. No hats are allowed. If your husband is in the military service, he may wear his uniform (if required to do so) instead of a tuxedo or suit.

*REHEARSAL ATTIRE

“sharp” casual). The judges attend absolutely no rehearsals but you are still representing your city/county so you want to look and act accordingly.
