Guests: Paul Larr was the guest of Tom Meese and Karen Sorel was the guest of Gehrig Lohrmann. Both are prospective members.

Visiting Rotarians: Sharon Garonfanello and Grace Soong both of the Pittsford Club.

Exchange Student: Max Lewandowski reported looking forward to a weekend in New York City. The first trip for exchange students had to be cancelled as a result of Hurricane Sandy.

Announcements:

The first meeting of the Club at the Moose Club will be Thursday, February 7th. The Moose Club is located on Ontario Street.

President Greg informed the membership that at its last meeting, the Board approved a contribution of $3000 to the William D. Head Foundation that will be used for Hurricane Sandy Relief.

Jack Moran asked everyone to save the dates August 10th and 11th for the 2013 Pier Festival. He announced that this year the club will join forces with the organizers of the Reisling Festival. As a result, this Rotary event will now be two days long and will move off the pier onto Lakeshore Drive.

Jodi Kaufmann, on behalf of the Club Manual Committee, reminded all Committee Chairs that the deadline for providing a broad outline of the work of their committees is rapidly approaching. Information should be sent to Stephanie Kunes-Mincer by January 31st.

The next new member orientation will be held February 7th at 11:15 AM at the Moose Club.

Doug Lowden announced that the Rotary Kiwanis Bowling Tournament will take place February 17th at Roseland Bowl.

Fines/Happy Dollars:

Scott Kesel had a happy dollar for receiving a phone call from the first exchange student he and Jeannie had ever hosted, John Spare had one for the spectacular athletic performance of his daughter, Catherine, Tom Meese had one for the Princeton Field Hockey Team for being national champions, and Len Kane one for his granddaughter’s phenomenal display of ability in flag football. Last but not least, Clark Kurtz had one for his talented young granddaughter who picked up a ball with her feet.

Program: The 2013 7120 District Conference

Pittsford Rotarians, Sharon Garonfanello and

Grace Soong provided highlights of the upcoming District Conference to be held May 3rd through 5th at the Crowne Plaza Resort Hotel and Golf Course in Lake Placid. In addition to being in a beautiful location, the Conference willprovide many opportunities for learning, socializing and sharing among Rotarians and their spouses. The details of breakout sessions are still being finalized but among the topics under consideration are conversations with Mary French, founder and head of The Dictionary Project and Fred Carven, author of the recent book on Paul Harris and the birth of Rotary. Others are GSE Team presentations, both inbound and outbound to/from Sweden/Latvia, lectures on Lake Placid and theAdirondacks, Future Vision and the new Foundation, and an Executive Chef cooking demonstration (awaiting confirmation).
