Legal Strikes
Hand Strikes
-Fists strikes to standing opponent.
Fouls & Violations
-Hair pulling;
-Headbutting;
-Eye gouging and knuckle gouging;
-Using abusive language in the ring;
-Biting;
-Spitting;
-Throat strikes of any kind;
-Striking the top of opponent’s head (spiking);
-Striking the spine, back of the neck, or rear of the head;
-Shoulder strikes, elbow strikes, forearm strikes, or spinning backfist;
-Pressing elbow or arm into opponent's face;
-Groin attacks of any kind;
-Kicking or leg strikes of any kind;
-Hitting a downed or rising opponent;
-Grabbing of opponent’s headgear, gloves, shirt, and short;
-Locking opponent's head or arm, and holding opponent while hitting;
-Intentionally delaying the contest due to improper equipment, or by intentionally dropping or spitting out mouthguard;
-Pressing opponent's head over the ropes;
-Rope grabbing or continually holding the rope to rest or to gain advantage;
-Lifting, pushing, throwing, or otherwise forcing an opponent out of the ring;
-Unsportsmanlike conduct that causes injury to an opponent;
-Attacking an opponent who is under the care of an official;
-Attacking an opponent on or during a break;
-Flagrant disregard of referee’s instructions;
-Interference by corner/trainer.
Bout Time Lengths
Beginner: 2-two-minute rounds, with thirty-seconds rest in between rounds.
Advance: 3-two-minute rounds, with thirty-seconds rest in between rounds.
Ways to Win
Knockout (KO)
-Opponent is unconscious and is incapable of defending himself.
Technical Knockout (TKO)
-The physician or referee decides the opponent cannot continue due to a cut or other injury, or is unable to intelligently defend himself from strikes.
Referee Stoppage
-When opponent is taking excessive punishment but cannot or will not submit or quit either due to striking, failing to show a willingness to continue, a refusal to submit in the face of grave injury, or any other reason the referee believes is necessary to preserve the fighters’ safety.
Throw in the Towel
-Opponent’s corner decides to end the bout for the safety of their fighter.
Quit
-Opponent simply cannot or refuses to continue.
Decision
-When the bout has ended after the specified time without a winner, the decision shall be determined by three (3) judges.
Disqualification
-Opponent is disqualified by the referee.
Clothing & Equipment Guidelines
Required:
-Headgear;
-Mouthguard;
-Hand wraps;
-Boxing gloves;
-Groin cup;
-Boxing shoes.
Permitted:
-Shin, instep, elbow, and/or knee supports;
-Vaseline on face area only;
-Shirt & short.
Forbidden:
-Tape over knuckles;
-Oil on any part of the competitor’s body;
-Apparel or equipment, which includes rough, metallic, or hard plastic on edge or surface that would cause bruises, cuts, or lacerations.
Cornermen & Trainer Guidelines
Required:
-Every fighter is required to have a maximum of two (2) cornermen only;
-Must obey the referee at all times;
-Must stay in their fighter’s corner;
-Must conduct themselves with appropriate and proper sportsmanship;
-Must stay off the ring floor during the bout.
Permitted:
-Cornermen may spray (not pour) water and apply ice to a fighter in between rounds. No other substance may be applied to the body. Cornermen are responsible to dry the corner area before the next round;
-Any cuts should be checked by the ring doctor (the following substances may be applied to cuts only: petroleum jelly, adrenaline hydrochloride, avitene, and thrombin);
-During round breaks, only one (1) cornerman is allowed in the ring.
Note: Violation of rules can result in warning, point deduction, dismissal of cornerman and/or disqualification of the corner’s fighter.
