Dr. Kirsten Cutler

Dr. Kirsten Cutler is an isotope geochemist specializing in radiological security and nuclear energy cooperation issues at the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of International Security and Nonproliferation. Prior to this position, she worked for Senator Joseph Lieberman on energy and environmental legislation as an American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Fellow. In 2000, she received her Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota for work on high-precision Th-230 and Pa-231 dating of fossil corals. Her thesis centered on reconstructing past sea-level change during the glacial-interglacial cycles and calibrating the carbon-14 time scale. Prior to her graduate work, she taught physical science as a volunteer teacher in Africa and worked for the State of Minnesota on hazardous waste regulations.
