ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
All applicants must COMPLETEand submit Sections 1-5. Submit *Section 7 only if you are applying for Room & Board sponsorship.Submit **Section 8 if you are a Transfer Student. 1. Application Fee:

Include a check or money order for USD $35.00 made out to “LA Southwest College”. It may be paid in cash, check or money order. This fee is non-refundable.

2. Completed International Student Application:

This form must be completed and signed before we can begin processing your application.

3. Evidence of Secondary/High School Graduation:

Official secondary/high school transcripts or diplomas must be submitted verifying that you have graduated. If the original documents are not in English, a certified English translation must also be submitted. Students who have taken college/university coursework should submit transcripts of coursework taken.

4. Financial Certification and Affidavit of Support:

The enclosed form must accompany your application. An official bank balance verification letter is required.

The letter must be in English, in U.S. dollars and issued within the last six months.

5. English Proficiency Requirements:

Student must have full English language proficiency. The following methods may be used to show proficiency:

  • TOEFL score 45 IBT, 133 CBT or 450 PBT
  • CSUN IEP Level 9
  • STEP Eiken Level 2, pre-1 or 1
  • IELTS score 4.5
  • ELS Level 109
  • Native English speaker or two years of education (high school or university) with English as the main language of instruction

IMPORTANT

Sponsors who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents must also complete an affidavit of support, Form I-134. The form is available at under “Immigration Forms” (). Applicants with several sponsors must have each sponsor complete the Affidavit of Support: Summary of Financial Information if applicable. Please note that each set of documents must be accompanied by proof of income. A sponsor may include bank statements, employment reports or any proof of income that is available in their country. ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

*Acceptance as an International Student requires proficiency in the English language at a level high enough to allow the student to be successful at the college level. Proof of proficiency may be established in a number of ways.

1) TOEFL: Test of English as a Foreign Language (

A student must achieve a minimum score of 45 (iBT), 133 (CBT), or 450 (PBT).

(The assigned Institutional Code for this college is 4409; the department is 00.)

2) IELTS: International English Language Testing System (

A student must achieve a minimum score of Band 5.

3) iTEP: International Test of English Proficiency (

A student must achieve a minimum score of 4.0.

4) STEP EIKEN: Society for Testing English Proficiency (stepeiken.org)

A student must achieve a minimum score of Grade Level 2A.

5) TOEIC: Test of English for International Communication (

A student must achieve a minimum score of 500.

6) If the student’s language of instruction was English, a test score may be substituted with a signed letter on school

letterhead from the director of the institution stating such.

The above fees represent the minimum estimated tuition and living expenses that an international student can expect to pay while attending LA Southwest College.

Students intending to enroll at LA Southwest College must show funding of at least USD $16,900 (unless room and board is being provided) in order to receive the I-20. The I-20 is the document needed to apply for the F-1 visa. International students are required to enroll in 12 units each semester for a minimum total of USD $3,450 per semester, including enrollment fee. All fees are subject to change by the State Legislature and/or other governing boards.

Tuition and fees are due in full no more than two weeks after registration.
