  1. ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEMBERSHIP, 2010-2012

Debbie Saunders outlined the duties and responsibilities of an advisory committee member. She also verified the names of the persons on the committee and asked them to serve for another two years. No objections were made. She also handed out brochures outlining the Business Skills Center course offerings for both the Office Administration Certificate Program, and the Business and Computer Studies Online course offerings.

  1. COMMUNITY OFFICE SKILLS NEEDS
  1. Office 2010- The committee was advised that we are currently using Microsoft Office2007 and Windows Vista and plan to upgrade to Office 2010 in the fall of 2011. Members were individually polled as to what their respective offices were using in the way of software and whether they planned to upgrade to Office 2010. Both AngieDivingnzzo and Virginia Bickford noted that their respective clients are currently using Office 2007 and have no plans to upgrade to Office 2010.
  2. Operating System– All still using Windows Vista; although, Minnette Nugent from Alkar indicated a few requests for Mac users.
  3. Voice Recognition-No requests at this time.
  4. Instant Messaging (IM)- No demand for this skill at this time.
  5. Facebook-All participants indicated an increased demand for workers with social media skills. Minnette Nugent stated that Alkar has had requests for a social media administrator.
  6. Blogs and Wikis-All participants indicated an increased demand for workers at least understanding the nature of Blogs and Wikis.
  7. Website Maintenance- All participants indicated demand in skills for HTML and “InDesign.”
  1. CAMPUS UPDATE

Debbie updated the participants on the progress of the opening of the new campus buildings as well as the plans to remodel existing buildings.

  1. EMPLOYMENT POSSIBILITIES/OUTLOOK

Both Angie Divingnzzo and Virginia Bickford agreed that the employment outlook was very slow at this time for positions such as administrative assistants; and marketing, communication, and customer service representatives. Angie has been successful, however, in obtaining grant funds to train low-income adults, dislocated or unemployed workers. Grants have been especially available for green and sustainable marketing positions.

  1. OTHER ITEMS

E-mail etiquette appears to be an issue with some employees. Additionally, some employers prefer that resumes be copied and pasted into the text area of e-mails for ease of opening. Others still prefer to have the resumes sent as attachments. Both participants were excited to learn about the online course offerings in the Business and Computer Studies Division.

  1. ADJOURNMENT

As there was no further discussion or business, the meeting was adjourned at4:15 p.m.
