OF MICE AND MEN – Caricature Project

Name that caricature (not from the book!):

As we read Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men, we are forming a better understanding of each character based on his/her descriptions, actions, dialogue, thoughts, etc. With your knowledge of the characters in Of Mice and Men thus far, construct a caricature (car·i·ca·ture: A pictorial representation in which the subject's distinctive features or peculiarities are deliberately exaggerated to produce a comic or grotesque effect.) of one of the following characters:

Lennie, George, Curley, Curley’s Wife, Slim, Candy, or Crooks

Your caricature should be a hand-drawn illustration on a piece of unlined white paper that is in color.

Below your caricatures or on the back, you will write 2 short paragraphs (each should be at least 4 sentences, using proper MUGS!)

Paragraph 1 should explain the character, as they appear in the book, and explaining what TYPE of character they are (major, minor, etc..) You must include ONE quote directly from the book, embedded into your quote with a signal phrase, and an embedded parenthetical citation ex: (Steinbeck 34).

Paragraph 2 is to explain YOUR drawing, and why you chose to exaggerate the features you did. If you aren’t the best artist, this is your opportunity to explain what you are trying to depict/what it is you have shown about them through your exaggerated drawing.

Remember, you are depicting the character as they appear in the book, while at the same time showing us something ABOUT their personality/behavior with your drawing. You are not just drawing a picture of them!
